I would trade just about anything to get him! He could be a long-term solution. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/18863192/kirk-cousins-requesting-trade-washington-redskins
He will not play here, he has repeatedly said he would only sign a long term deal with the Skins or Niners. Not happening. Thank God.
I disagree. Things have gotten so bad in Washington, I think he would be willing to expand his options.
He'd have to sign the Franchise Tag and we'd be on the hook for it...... plus, they want multiple 1st round picks...... seems too steep to me
But this is different: This is the only available options that could very well be a LONG-TERM solution to the QB position!
He's an average QB, he is not even close to worth 2 firsts and a contract. Him "expanding his options" is speculation, him outright saying only 49ers or Skins is tangible.
True...... but this isn't a move rebuilding teams do...... and for it to be long term, he'd have to want to resign...... he wants to be in San Fran
The landscape has changed significantly since those quotes came out. So I don't think that's a sturdy crutch to lean on at the moment. NFL Network's Micheal Silver just predicted the Jets were the most realistic trade partner for Cousins as of 30min ago. He phrased it in way that he believes the Jets to be the only realistic option.
This is second only to signing Cutler as a horrible idea. He would cost a fortune and he hasn't proven that he's a FQB. The Jets would be handcuffed for YEARS with cap and likely loss of draft picks. How hard is it to understand this fact: You don't find a FQB in somebody else's cast offs! If he was "all that:" don't you think Washington would be keeping him and playing him?
Do you want to pay too much for a QB or not have one at all? Serious question. Not even related to Cousins but just in general.
I truly believe this trade would absolutely not be in the best interest of a rebuilding team. Way too expensive and restrictive.
Personally, I believe Cousins is worth 19-20m / year. There's no one the Jets could take at QB with the 6th pick this year who will have an immediate impact the way Cousins would. Additionally, there's no "sure thing" QB in the '18 draft (yes, I'm talking about Rosen or Darnold) that the Jets could even guaranteed get. Players like Cousins become available every blue moon. That said, if the Jets don't get Cousins, I am all for starting Hackenberg.
But he IS a cast-off! If he was really any good they would keep him and play him. That's the definition of a "cast off".
