This is a big reason I want some young ILB depth in the draft. Losing Harris on the second level would impact our running game more then his negative impact on passing plays. We need to groom another thumper and he isn't currently on the roster. I love Foster even with his draft antics

I agree that to get the most out of Lee it would be beneficial to switch to a 4-3 base, but he would need to play WLB.

or SS. I read somewhere that Lee is essentially playing the Deone Buchanan/moneybacker role in our defense, a role who many believed Pryor would play. By the way Pryor should be added to the hidden cap savings list as there is a good chance he's cut or traded.

Am I the only one that doesn't think we should cut our two best players on both sides of the ball? (Sheldon and Decker) .. I also wouldn't cut Pryor either.

I'm all for everyone else we cut... and I wouldn't mind a Gilchrist and David Harris cut either..

Well, we're currently paying around 3 times as much money to QBs who aren't on our roster than QBs who are on our roster, so you can start there in the search for the seemingly invisible money.

Pryor needs a lot of work. To be quite honest, I wouldn't mind if Bowles experimented as having Pryor play a hybrid in the box safety/linebacker role. He's been far too inconsistent so if a team calls us offering a 5th round pick I would take it.

Also, there are still a few moves I'd like to see from Macc. Gilchrist should be cut, and if they can secure a linebacker to replace Harris I would do that too. We need to get younger and faster.

As for Decker I think he will stay.

With Sheldon Richardson, we will either see him get traded by draft time, or we will see him on the Jets this season. The way I see it, unless Jets get legitimate compensation, they would be comfortable letting him play and getting a compensatory pick when he leaves.

I would cut Devin Smith if it meant freeing up 12 cents of cap space.

He does make a fair point when you make the comparison to the rest of the league.

why do you think he is suited better to play WLB instead of MLB?

    Most likely size related.

I think he is fine at MLB in a 3-4 but if we did move to 4-3, no way he could play in the middle. Would rather David Harris' slow behind there.

2017 is the start of the new 4 year period regarding the 89℅ rule so we can carry over all of the cap space with no worry about meeting that required cap floor. We should carry over as much as possible the next 2 years giving us the money to be aggressive in 2019 and 2020 when the young roster should be coming into its prime and ready to really compete.

smaller MLBs are better suited for the 4-3. look at what vilma did here a while back. then when we moved to a 3-4 we traded him as it didn't fit his play style well and went with harris.

Lee is built perfect for the 4-3 much better then he is in the 3-4. Why do people think otherwise?

I don't think he has the instincts or ability to take on lead blockers. As the MLB in a 4-3, Lee would have to hold up at the point of attack. At the WLB position, he is free to shoot gaps and use his athleticism to chase down ball carriers. One of his major responsibilities would be to take away cut back lanes. If he played the WLB position, he wouldn't have to take on as many blocks and would be able to fly around the field.

    that's the opposite of true.
in a 3-4 that' what MLBs do hence the reason we got rid of vilma and drafted harris. In the 4-3 the D-line keeps the blockers off the MLB and he can run sideline to sideline and shoot the gaps.
