Echoing others Liked him but really what good is he on a rebuild.... Let him try and get a ring- pats should take him
Heres the story: INDIANAPOLIS – The Jets’ roster purge of 2017 continues. The team is going to release wide receiver Brandon Marshall, a source confirmed Thursday night. Marshall, who turns 33 on March 23, is the latest veteran to get cut by the team, which over the past week also cut Nick Mangold and announced they would cut Darrelle Revis. The release of Marshall will clear another $7.5 million in salary cap space, bringing their total space to around $35 million, according to overthecap.com. They have cleared approximately $46 million in space over the past month. The Jets reportedly offered to keep Marshall and extend his contract, but also gave him input into the decision. He decided he did not want to be part of a rebuilding team and asked for his release, according to reports. Marshall had a monster season with the Jets in 2015, his first with the team. He set a team record with 109 catches, but he struggled in 2016 and had just 59 catches. He was a spokesman for BPD and with a mental health condition kept it down to I believe one locker room meltdown vs the 30 he had in Chicago Tried to get team going imo ,,but the dropsies were getting bad He will find a contender to be a part of Adios Amigo jmho
Really loved what he did in 2015. Had a monster year. Last year he got hurt in the Buffalo game and wasn't the same since and then we went in the tank and it was pointless for him to play really. Respect what he did here and wish him the best on his next team. Luckily no cap hit. Wait...there is some cap hit: #Jets save $7.5M by releasing Brandon Marshall... he'll count $1.875M against the cap in dead money
He was scary good in 2015 but like everyone else he was shit this past season... Time to move on and give the young wide outs there chance.
The Jets are cleaning up the mess that the free agent wave two years ago created. Everybody they have let go was on the wrong side of 30. It's the right posture to be in right now. The key is not to bring in more 28 year old free agents with the cap room created. If they do that then we're back in the same boat in year or two at the outside.
He was awful last year and was fun to watch briefly in 2015. He was probably the worst in clutch for his skill set I've ever seen. We have plenty of talent waiting to get their shot and needed cap room. I'd imagine we keep Decker for stability and keeping a seasoned vet on the team for at least one more year. Sheldon needs to be traded/cut this offseason and then our addition by subtraction moves will be complete. I dont care who started what, but we clearly had some cancers in locker room on this team last year. We need to bring in guys who will lead this young group.
Are they really going to keep Decker? Would much rather cut him and let Peake, Smith, and Marshall compete for playing time.
This roster purge proves how awful that 2015 free agency period truly was. It set the team back. The only two remaining from the $100+ million spent are underperforming overpaid Buster Skrine and overpaid average James Carpenter. Oh and Marcus Gilchrist who likely won't even be ready for the start of the season if he stays on the roster. What a disaster that period was for one 10-6 team that didn't make the playoffs. Smdh
Marshall said the Jets would be his last team and he would retire a Jet. I guess he is a lying piece of crap after all. I've said it before: his 2015 season was best I had ever seen from a Jets WR. After last year though: peace out 15!
We can't cut everyone. We still need some proven NFL talent on the roster. As promising as the young core is, we can't solely rely on second year guys with a likely young quarterback. Keep Decker. He's a savvy knowledgeable veteran receiver that doesn't come with any drama and has a smoking hot wife (tossing that in there).
Love this move! Goodbye to the Marshall Fitz bromance. Hopefully they keep Decker, and we are on our way.
How are we going to develop a QB when he has no one to throw to? This season is going to be brutal. I'm not necessarily opposed to releasing Marshall but we are really going to have a shit team. Did any of our young WR's look promising this year? Robbie Anderson is our hope? Forget it. This team sucks forever.
Decker is a #2 guy at best. If Decker is the best WR on the team, coming off huge multiple injuries, this season will be nothing short of unwatchable.
