This is how I will remember him and his time with the patriots. Fuck him. Hopefully for his sake he holds on to the soap better than he held onto his side of the field in '16.
08-11 were incredible; I would even add '12 (2 games) before he went down. He was the best, all opposing qbs feared him. A man was an island. #24 A player should try to earn as much as they can. Somewhere I think Revis lost touch of the team aspect though; and was only concerned about the money. Play to get paid mentality ruined him; a bum knee and Father Time. That said with a better defensive strategy he could still defy Father Time. He could still be effective in man covering an opposing #2, or in the flat in cover 2 ...as long as he's willing to tackle. Fully expect to find Revis in the flat or in man covering a Jets #2 next season.... as long as he can keep suspension free.
Yeah I will always remember Revis for that season, when he really held the #1's in check all by himself. 4th most passes thrown his way in 2009 and a near record low in terms of comp%, YPA and Opp QB Rat. It was an amazing thing to watch.
A once great player, but the time had come. Before last season he was such a willing, solid tackler that I assumed a move to safety could be done successfully. But, as Revis always said, it ain't personal, it's business. Well, the business side has determined that a way-overpaid, aging CB, that put forth an embarrassing effort had to go. See ya' two/four...
Prime Revis has me in my feels because I don't want to remember him as a Patriot and his last season back here. BTW, be prepared for Lattimore at #6. When Revis first left here we drafted Milliner...
I hope you will. That will let the Jets off the hook for at least some of the $6 million they will owe him, and our receivers can abuse his sorry ass.
The darkside is strong lately. You just know he will get out of trouble and end up on a division rival. The 6mil back would be nice caveat. But watching him return to form for one or two last great seasons will sting like the dickens. Hopefully my eyes are telling me the truth. Revis is done; can't cover man , can't keep up with the youth; can't/won't tackle. Heck, his likely impending suspension should be enough to hault any kind of rebirth. Just that sneaky, all too familiar, "darkside" suspicion, this is going to come back and bite.
In my opinion the most talented Jets player to ever wear the uniform. Sad to see him to, but it was time. Really glad to see our front office going full rebuild instead of half-assing it like usual.
It's official, just announced on Total Access: Revis Released by Jets. Prior to him, people were saying there was no such thing as a shutdown corner anymore. Receivers and QB's could have their way with any DB in the league. Deion Sanders was supposedly the last true shutdown cornerback. Then along came Revis and proved that a shutdown corner was still possible and he wore No. 24 in green. From a personal standpoint, as great as he was, to me, he didn't seem to have a fire in him when he played. He was almost methodical and nonchalant. I don't know how he was in the locker room but he didn't come across as a team leader (not that many Jets did.) It should also be noted that the Jets won no championships with him on the roster. The lesson to be learned is that no DB, no matter how great, is going to bring the Jets closer to a championship until they get their QB.
He was great and the was is the key. He can't cover anymore and he never had great tackling ability. It's time to let a few more vets go. Spend money on youth and BAP'ers in the draft. Look for good backup players that can grow into starters. Time to start over and see what happens. The two QB's should get plenty of time to shape up and see if they are worth keeping. If not, another year with no QB, but we've been there before. It may take "forever" to get to Super Bowl contention.
I belive im a jets fan a big part because of darelle revis i loved how that team played in 2009 and felt in love with it its sad to see him go , but in a way im glad he is gone. Was fun seeing you in your prime tho.
It seems inevitable now it's happened, but I was worried the Jets would mess this up by keeping him. I'm relieved to see them make this move. Revis was an incredible talent and I loved watching him on the team for the early part of his career. For a brief period we had the best player in the NFL at his position, and that doesn't happen often as a Jets fan, so I will always be grateful for that. After last year, though, I'm happy to see him go.
It was time. After giving the Jets 9 good games to start his second stint with the Jets, Revis fell off the face of the planet. What became obvious was that Revis had lost that fire, the drive to be great. Injury aside, the Revis of old would not have shown up to camp overweight. He continuously cited his age and injuries as why his play was deteriorating when it became apparent that it was more his lack of effort that led to his quick demise. One of the greatest Jets, a for sure hall of famer and ring of honor member, I thank Revis for everything he's done, but I am glad that he is no longer a member of this team.
I'm with this guy..........Mangold hurt. I was actually a bit depressed over that one. This one - not so much.
It was just so rare to have a first ballot hall of famer, in his prime, developed by and playing for the jets. I hope those memories will outlast the 10 yard cushions and lack of tackling we got last year.
