Who's the Chargers' MVP -- LT or Rivers?ESPN.com

There are questions that must be answered coming out of every Sunday. We asked our experts for their opinions on the five Burning Questions coming out of Week 10. Also, we want to know what SportsNation thinks.

~ ~ ~ 4. Do the Jets have a legit chance to pass the Patriots in the AFC East?

Allen: When was the last time you saw Tom Brady drive down the field to tie or win a game and not come through? Well, it's happened two straight weeks now, and it's because the Patriots don't have enough offensive playmakers. That lack of playmakers is leaving the door wide open for the Jets to take this division.

Theismann: The Jets definitely have a chance to catch up to the Patriots. The Patriots are playing poorly right now and aren't playing with the type of focus and discipline that we're used to seeing. They normally bounce back from a loss with a great deal of confidence. They don't lose two games in a row, especially like this. The Jets outplayed them and beat them up and down the field.

Even when I read a quote from Theismann I hear his awful voice in my head. Gah.

The Jets are always in the driver’s seat when it comes to seasons like this. Year after year we over achieve, underachieve and we have a shot to do something in the standings but we are our worst enemy! Typical Jets Sh#@!
    One game at a time!

I think they have basically the same schedule, and I would say no. I've never seen Belichick that pissed off in my short life.

We have as good a shot as any to beat the Bears, and then we can start talking. Green Bay is not the pushover team they looked like earlier in the season and neither is Houston. Nothing is guaranteed.

Best Shot for the season on current progess would be 10-6 and that is the best we can hope for. This will however not get us passed the Pats and might even make it difficult to make the WC, however as long as we keep beating AFC opponents on the way all the better.

But as Junjobx2199 alluded to we have a habit of confounding the media either on the positive or the negative, so if the Pats carry on choking who knows.:jets:

And how many time over the years have the Jets been doing well late in the season only to lose to a lousy team in the final 2 or 3 weeks? Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, especially when you're the Jets.

One game back with 7 to play, certainly there's a chance. We've split the first tie-breaker, head to head, the next is division record. They're 4-1, we're 3-1. We need to win the Buffalo and at Miami games, and hope they lose their remaining division game, which is vs Miami. Not sure where the game is.

If the division record ends up the same, next is AFC record, so it remains to be seen, but those division games will go a long way to determining that. The only downside is we have to root for the Dolphins for a week, that's never good.

If we win the game vs Bears then the JETS will win the division

    Its not likely

but we can do it. Might even catch 'em pretty soon. They have the resurgent Pack at Lambeau this week and the Bears the following. If we can beat the Bears, we can catch those bastards!

We play the Packers, and they play the Bears too. They're going to need to lose to a team we beat, and we're going to have to pretty much win out. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't lose another game all year, and we don't either. We might want to just hope for the WC spot.

Projections and preditions are fine but, I think taking one game at a time would be the best approach

It's not impossible. The Patriots are a .500 team without Harrison.

That is exactly what the Jets players need to do, but we are the fans. This is what we do. ;)

i don't know about all that...

but without Harrison AND Wilson, their D lacks in the Secondary. i mean, imagine if Rhodes and Coleman were both out for us -- not that Coleman carries the D, but he's a vet starter. our Secondary isn't that good as it is; at least the Pats still have Samuel and Hobbs (who is decent).

    cheers

And Miami suddenly looks like the team that was supposed to go to the Super Bowl, and Buffalo lost to Indy by 1. If one thing is for certain, it is that the Jets won't have it easy if they want to win the division. I think the best we as fans can hope for is 10-6. I don't know if, but I don't think, that's enough to overtake the Patriots...

I think being a game back with 7 to play the Jets can certainly pass the Patriots. While still at what I think is a talent decifit, I think that the Jets are cetrainly moving in the right direction both overall (in terms of how the team is being built) and this season. So, I sort of see this question as in two parts. The first is that, obviously with some help from the teams playing the Patriots, the Jets can catch them this year. Almost every team will go through a season and run into a loss that's unexpected. Some (particularly in Boston) would say that's what happened to the Patriots this past weekend. I also think that Tom Brady has, for whatever reason, not been his consistently good self. Maybe it's that he does not have the quality receivers with whom he built a relationship on whom he can rely, but it's just not been the same guy week-in, week-out we've seen in previous years. Also, the defense has holes that various teams have exploited in certain games. That said, the Jets need to concentrate on taking care of their own business and if the Patriots falter, take advantage.

What I think is the more interested question is whether the Jets are moving towards catching the Patriots in terms of being a quality team. This is where I have begun to get excited about the Jets. They seem to really have a plan and stick to it, whether that be in the draft, free agency or game planning. I think that the management of the team (including the coaching staff) has had a plan and has slowly been working it into place, regardless of the previous week's results on the field. I like that they don't panic and stick to their plan. We are seeing a week-to-week improvement in the defense as the coaching staff makes minor adjustments to the lineups and incorporates more into the gameplan (like the blitzes). The Patriots, on the other hand, seem to be losing talent and having their other players age and not replacing it with like-talent.

I would love for the Jets to catch the Patriots this year, but it's the serious movement to catch them overall that has me excited.

I think you guys have a great chance actually. There is still a ton of football left to be played and if you can build off your win against NE, you'll be in the mix.

How is Mangold? If he remains healthy, I like your chances that much better.

He got poked in the eye and missed about 2-4 plays then re-entered the game.

I think the Bears can beat the Pats. And maybe the Jags can too. Can we catch 'em? Maybe. Its a long shot, I know.

Did you guys see the Pats remaining schedule? Now tell me who has a better chance of losing a game they are supposed to win? Obviously we have a chance being only one game behind but I would say highly unliky this year. Now next year is another story altogether..
