Well ... in the 30 games under Bowles, the Jets have now given up NINE touchdowns on Special Teams. 1 Kickoff Return (Dolphins) 2 Punt Returns (Eagles, Giants) 2 Blocked Punts (Redskins, Dolphins) 1 Snap through the punter's hands, recovered in the end zone (Ravens) 3 Fumbled Kickoff Retuns that were returned for TD's (Bills, Bills, Chiefs) That number isn't just bad ... it's incomprehensible. I'd be surprised if there's another team in the league that has given up even half that amount over the past 30 games. I bet the Patriots haven't given up nine ST touchdowns in the past nine years. And I'm not even counting the assorted fumbles, muffs, blocked FG's, long returns, and 20 yard punts that lead directly to touchdowns. There's plenty to fix on this team, but this needs to be near the top of the list.
My favorite was the 60 yard punt Marshall muffed and then ran 18 yards backwards and they got called for a block in the back half the distance to the 6, an 84 yard net
I'd make a joke about Jets Special Teams participating in the Special Olympics, but I don't want to insult people who deal with real disabilities every day. (plus it's not clear that the Jets ST would win there either... )
How about a real KR/PR? Stay in the fuckin' end zone and take the ball at the 25 yd line...Both Marshall's and Ross comprise the worst return corps in the nfl
That's simply appalling. I knew they'd been bad, but didn't suspect anything like that. That number is a monument to the spectacular disarray that is the Jets at every level. It's so embarrassing it defies description. There has to be a complete house-cleaning of the coaching staff, for up to this point, incompetence brings no consequence.
I'll admit that I didn't see why everyone was so up in the air about Ryan Fitzpatrick's big contract as it was a one year deal. Looking back, I was obviously wrong about Fitzpatrick possibly turning in another good season, but more importantly that remaining cap space is what should've been used to sign depth backups to play special teams. We need to use our 6th & 7th round picks to select these players. Get undersized linebackers and safeties to man the special teams units. Granted, we got Peake out of the 7th round and Robbie Anderson as an UDFA, but no more searching far and wide for these project players. I'd rather have a couple Matthew Slater's on the roster than Freddie Bishop and Mike Catapano who are players where we need to say a Hail Mary every day that they can even become an adequate backup.
You guys have it all wrong,,,,all is well,,,just give Bowels and company 1 more year to get it right ,, stay the course !
Matt thank god I at least have Cappy / Snow and my Islanders,,,,,oops thats right they suck also,,,when do pitchers and catchers report ..lol
