Ooooh what a delicious win. www.boston.com Outside linebacker Mike Vrabel lamented the fact that the Patriots -- who were without starting safeties Rodney Harrison and Eugene Wilson and starting end Ty Warren -- couldn't counter the Jets' plan, which seemed tailored to the sloppy field conditions "I don't think we played smart," he said. "I think once we see and realize what they're doing early in the game -- with the weather conditions and the field -- everybody needs to make adjustments, coaches and players. I think you look at it and you have to do certain things, you have to run inside. They were throwing a lot of things inside and short." "We knew they had a lot of blitzes, it's pretty much the same defense as our team," offensive guard Logan Mankins said. "But I think they brought a little more than we expected."
What was the story with Seymour on the sidelines the second half anyway? He limped off on that one play but kept his helmet on and was standing and seemingly looking to get back on the field. Maybe he pissed Belichick off?
My thoughts exactly. As much as I hate to admit it (given how much I hate Shockey), his comments really were overblown at the time, since in today's NFL it's a lot more common than it used to be for players to call out their coaches.
Seymour was a little banged up from the Bills game and had to swap sides with the Warren injury, but he was benched for his play early on. He could have played but I think Belichick was trying to send a message. A couple of Seymour's quotes from the Boston papers. ?I don?t fight coaches,? Seymour said. ?I fight the opposing offensive line. I don?t always agree with every decision that is made, but I respect it.? ?Obviously when you?re in there, you get more of a feel for the game,? Seymour said. ?That goes without saying, but you want to produce when you hear your number called. That?s the bottom line.? Obviously, you don't always agree with everything that goes on, but you respect it. But you definitely don't have to agree with everything." "Eric was here, so he knows what we do, but there are no excuses," Seymour said. "They outplayed us and outcoached us today. We just have to do a better job of meeting force with force. We just have to do a better job from top to bottom being ready to go."
I"m glad the Jets players said they wanted to win since BB was being such an ass to Mangini. I can only hope we play KC or the Patriots again if we make the playoffs.
It is a classy move by a some Pats players Vrable is fine but I hope Mankins doesn't get the axe because of this.... Then again maybe it was just the Pats players showing respect for Mangini being their coach couldn't show some in defeat
