Petty probably is NOT ready. That is true. He looks clueless out there. However, he needs to be given a chance to learn the final month of the season. Hopefully he gets better every game and can take it to the next level in 2017. If not, at least he is given a chance. Easy call. Start Bryce!
man this reminds me of the troy taylor bandwagon in '89...... look gruden knows football better than all of us and he is reading the performances against the rams and colts which were NOT good. that being said, the jets have no choice and lets see if we have some improvement from last night to weeks 16 and 17 - especially against the afc east. but hey even 5 games isn't enough to get a really good handle but maybe it wets the appetite enough. of course, jets luck would see petty get injured and the unknown persists. LOL
Problem is...even if Petty works out...did you see the defense last night? Like on the second Colts td? Those guys have quit on Bowles, and whether that's on Bowles or there are some bad apples on the team or both...it's bad. I don't think Bowles did himself any favors by sticking with MeFirst Fitz. And I cannot understand why Petty looks the way he does after a season and a half. Do they know how to train QB's? Ron
I love Gruden and I would like him as Jets HC, even though I know it won't happen. However, for him to say Petty is not the answer is not reasonable, Petty has not gotten any first team reps, there is no foundation for him to build on. He can look at a ton of film and plays on paper, but unless he is given some type of repetition in practice, he has nothing to carry over when it's game time. The other thing he has going against him is the scheme he is in, Gailey has a pass heavy scheme, it's not really a scheme that you want to develope a young guy with, especially with only 4 games left. It usually takes about 6 games for a QB to get settled in to a comfort zone based on some of the philosophy of the better HC in the league. This whole thing wreaks of implosion to me and it's going to contribute negatively to an already terrible season.
You're really working hard at getting the Dumbfuck award this year aren't you.. The kid's 2nd game as a pro and he looks bad. WTF. Did it ever occur to you that he didn't get many 1st team reps since Shitz was starting? Has it dawned upon you that perhaps the Kid was nervous considering its MNF and the team Owner is in the house sitting next to the Vice President Elect? Maybe if the kid had been getting 1st team reps, his Wr's wouldn't have to learn how to play with Petty on the fly? You Sir, are working my last nerve.
I don't care if he can't play, LET him play and if he sucks, you know we can look at Hack or other options this off-season. We are tanking regardless. We'd actually be the best at tanking if it weren't for the Browns
Petty is inexperienced and is going to look uneven. We will know nothing about him at season's end, though, because the rest of the team has given up. He may not be much, but we will not get a fair assessment.
I say play all the fringe guys anyway. At least they know they are playing for a roster spot and will try their asses off. Start Robbie Anderson and Peake. Miles was the only one last night that seemed to actually try. He doesn't have the most natural talent, but that boy plays his butt off.
I said it last night they'll play him now when the team has given up and he has no chance. Another QB RUINED
I would like to see what Petty can do when he gets starting reps in practice and doesn't come into the game down 21 points. Worst case we pass the Bears, Jags, and 49ers for a higher draft pick.
Gruden's football opinion is pretty meaningless to be honest. He has made countless comments which have proved to be incorrect, this may or may not be one of them. Now that Petty will get the last 4 games to start, we can get a better sense of what he is or isn't.
Petty is in his 2nd season, so let's not pretend he just got here from Baylor. I don't anticipate him growing into an elite quarterback. He can't read NFL defenses. Starting Petty the rest of the season will undoubtedly have the Jets finishing with 13 losses and a shot at the 2nd pick in the 2017 draft if the 49ers can beat the Rams again.
Actually, he's really has just hit the field from Baylor. His first year he was inactive for the most part and I'm not sure he even had a clipboard to follow along with. His 2nd year he was on the PUP thanks to a scrub missing his blocking assignment and for the most part, he was playing sims in VR. No first team reps, no game snaps, no prior experience. He might as well be fresh from Baylor with all the opportunity he wasn't given. Its no wonder he looked as bad as he did last night. I'm not sure even 4 more games will tell Petty's true story. When it comes to developing young Qb's, the Jets' history speaks for itself.
What ever do you mean? Haven't you heard Gruden before? Everyone works the hardest and is the best at their position! Everyone's a winner!
Take off the Petty goggles man. He's been working with the Jets coaches learning how to run an NFL offense since last year. He's certainly not on the fast track to figuring things out...he looks terrible. You making excuses for him is hilarious. My favorite excuse of yours was Petty might have been nervous because the Vice President was with Woody at the game last night. That's classic stuff. It's clear who your "dog" is in the fight. I'm ready to see our 2nd round pick Christian Hackenberg.
