With a win tonight, the Jets remain alive for the 2016 post season. A loss, and they are officially out. Just for fun, here's how it can happen: http://es.pn/2gtlFxL Once we lose, or the Broncos win a game, we are out.
Maybe if every other team in the hunt were also the Jets. But no, those teams have the opportunity to win any given Sunday. They don't run a degnerate out on the field (every week) that has a 8-58 career record against teams when they put up 20 or more points, like the Jets.
The Jets won't make the playoffs, but they sure can play spoiler so other teams don't make the playoffs.
tonight feels like one of those games where we may look back and say why, why did we have to win that one??.
Thats right any team needing the jets to beat a team so they can jump ahead is going to have their season ruined.
If you think this team with these coaches can win out and compete with elite teams in the playoffs you have got to be kidding yourself. This is the time to prepare for next year or even better, the year after that.
It sucks to be COMPLETELY OUT with 25% of the season left. You have to have been a complete mess to be out this early. Sadly, the Jets are. (3-8) is beyond putrid. Bowles gets blamed a lot, because this is NOT a (3-8) team. Certainly they are not an (8-3) team either, but with proper coaching and game planning, the Jets are going into tonight at (6-5) or (7-4). They have failed completely across the board this year. Unlike fans who want the highest possible draft pick, I want to finish the season on a good note. Hopefully going (3-2) down the stretch. No reason they can't do that or better. They probably won't though. That is how heartless they have played WITH something on the line. Without? Rolling over and dying would not shock any of us.
Don't kid yourself Poe. You know the Jets luck. Fitz will play LIGHTS OUT tonight. 4TD 0INT. 300+ yards. (All against a terrible Colts D) Then Bowles will say "Of course I am starting Fitz in SF. He just threw for 4TD 300 yards and 0INT!"
Sorry, you seem like a really good guy, and I like your positivity, but that's carrying it too far, and is just flat out stupid imo. Winning another game or two doesn't do one damn thing for the team or its future. In fact, it would be the worst possible thing that could happen. For starters, it would screw the Jets' draft position. Secondly, it would take some of the stench off the season and the piss-poor job Bowles and his CS have done. It might even save their jobs (which shouldn't happen). Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, if the Jets win tonight, Bowles will keep trotting Fitz out there and we won't get a chance to see what we have in Petty or to develop him for next season. We'd be going into the draft and OTAs blind. That wouldn't help Mac or the team at all. It might even result in Fitz coming back as the starter next season, or the team trading for Romo or something stupid like that. IMO no true Jets fan should want to see the team win another game this season. At this point, the future (next season and beyond) is all we have.
Yeah, I understand that approach. It is probably the correct one. Just not who I am. I want to win every game. Otherwise, why watch or even be a fan? This will always be a debate when a season is out of reach. Sadly, we talk about it too much on this board because it happens so much.
You're a fan for more than one game or one season, right? Have you ever heard the old maxim about winning the battle, but losing the war? Sometimes one has to lose a battle or two in order to win the war. Have you ever heard/read about how Texas eventually defeated Mexico? About how they kept retreating and allowing the Mexicans to win skirmishes, but then finally had the Mexicans where they wanted them, and kicked their butts? No one really wants to lose, but sometimes your team has to lose in order to realize that change needs to be made, that they aren't quite as good as they thought they were, that there are problems they didn't foresee. That's even more true when you have a clueless twit like Woody owning your favorite team. The only way he will see that his decision was wrong to have Bowles and Mac as equals, is if the team keeps losing. The only way he will see that Bowles is in over his head is if the team keeps losing. If Bowles and/or Fitz are back next season, there is no realistic hope for the playoffs. For me, it would mean that my days as a Jets fan are over. I don't want that to happen, but I refuse to keep rooting for a team that is clueless. I'm not insane, and to keep rooting for a team that keeps doing things the same stupid way and yet expects different results would be insane. Hopefully, if the team finishes 3-13, that will be unacceptable to Woody and even he will see that Bowles and his CS did a horrible job. Hopefully, he will then realize that he doesn't know what he's doing and that he needs to step back and let Mac run the team or if he doesn't like or trust Mac, hire a true professional football man to run the football operation. That's the only real hope that any of us have. I've been rooting for this team since 1964. I want to see them be a team I can be proud of and win a SB before I die or become driven crazy by the Jets stupidity. Meaningless wins won't do that. Only Woody selling the team, or waking up and realizing how stupid he is, and then hiring and allowing the football man to run the team will accomplish that.
