i recall last year when fitz was struggling and had his thumb screwed up, not starting geno was an indictment on geno. he won't start petty it's an indictment on bowles?
interesting, put me in the camp that thinks petty has not looked very good in practice and is being overhyped around here

Maybe the Jets should just run the 'Cat 100% of the time. That way, our record of developing young Qb talent remains intact, Gailey can get back to writing up gameplans on the back of pizza boxes and Bowles won't have to worry about who gives him the best chance to win.

Interesting to see the training wheels seemingly coming off Goff today and wallah. He's 12/20 for 167 yards and three touchdowns. Amazing what happens when you give the young guy a chance, huh?

    Goff game 1: 17/31 (54.8 completion %), 134 yards, no touchdowns/interceptions, 1 sack

    Petty game 1: 19/32 (59.4 completion percentage), 1 touchdown/1 interception, 1 sack

    Hmmm.

Given the sample size of NFL snaps I think we need more data to evaluate our young QB. I don't remember us throwing in the towel on Geno Smith after more than two full seasons as a starter.

The jets will not have their QB of the future until they realize you have to spend a high first round pick to draft one.

Dax Prescott, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Russel Wilson, etc

And how many 'high first round' picks have the Jets had in recent years anyway? And by high I mean top five where you're drafting a no-doubter QB - not top five where there's no QB like the year where they traded down for Farrior. They tried that philosophy with Sanchez, and it failed too. And in years they've had top ten picks there really wasn't a QB value there

'96 with Keyshawn - no QB at all drafted in the first round
'97 - the only QB drafted in the first round was a non-entity in the NFL
'03 with D'Robertson - the next QB drafted was Leftwich, decent pro but hardly a franchise guy.
'06 with D'Brick - would you rather have a franchise LT or Jay Cutler?
'08 with Gholston - well I guess they should have been smart enough to draft a Delaware kid named Flacco but he was under everyone's radar and drafted twelve picks later
'13 - the only QB drafted in the first round after the Jets' pick was EJ Manuel
'15 - Leo Williams was the consensus best pick there, and there was no other QB drafted in the first round

The jets are full of sorry excuses, oh the guy is not ready but meanwhile you have some young qbs starting and doing a decent job. Just give them a chance dammit.

So, what will be the excuse not to start Petty for the rest of the season?

Give him at least three of these remaining starts. If he's terrible, give Hack shot at the last two.

What is the sense of playing Fitz at this point other than to get a poorer drafting position and save Bowles job? Both are terrible outcomes.

You better believe Bowles will come up with some bullshit covering his decision to start Fitz. He'll say the Jets still aren't eliminated from the post season and of course: "Fitz gives us the best chance to win"

I don't care if it's Petty or Hackenberg. There's a simple solution to the problem of inexperience.

This thread assumes the Jets actually have a future - not seen anything since I started following them in '85 to lead me to have any faith in that sentiment :p

That is an absurd comparison. Last year the Jets were in the playoff hunt, and we had seen Geno start 30 times.
