If healthy, Petty gets the balance of the season. The sample size will be enough to figure out what kind of vet QB to sign in the off season...
There's no point in going back to Fitzpatrick. He's a big part of why we're 3-7 and the team is going nowhere this season. Might as well go with Petty and see what he can do, hopefully with the coaching staff loosening up the reigns on him a bit and not coaching scared as they did today.
We both know Tony Romo is in our future He will get killed behind this oline though . Not handcuffed by the OC, but killed physically by opposing defenses nonetheless.
Yeah exactly. So we can miss out on three of the four top quarterback prospects and draft the next Christian Ponder.
Why on earth would anybody want to go back to Fitz? Is it his 12 INTs or his soon to come flutter balls in the november and december winds? Maybe it's the chance of getting an extra win and a worse draft pick..there must be logic in that suggestion somewhere.
I love this board after losses games, regardless of the result. We have drunk fans, We got delusional fans, way too optimistic fans, and fans just here for the ride. God bless this board and thank you for the laugh. Fitz should be nowhere near the field but knowing this garbage CS he'll be anointed the starter for the rest of the yearr hen given a shiny new contract.
I don't care what happens this season I see no reason to see fitz playing with the jets again. What do we gain by going back to him??
We gain absolutely nothing by going back to him. Get the young guys some game action. That's the best that can come out of his dumpster fire of a season at this point.
Why? So we can allow our players to develop in a functional NFL offense. Say what you want about Fitz, but I haven't seen a Jets offense play that bad at home since Tony Sparano was calling plays. If Petty was a first round pick I would agree with you, but hes a 4th round pick who couldn't even beat out Geno Smith for the backup job. Next year Petty will likely be elsewhere as the Jets will draft another QB to sit behind Tony Romo or Jay Cutler.
I'd gratefully take Romo , over the trash this team drafts, at least Romo could move the team up and down the field
I think we may be overlooking something really important in our post game analysis of Petty. It wasn't like Petty was up against 11 scrubs on defense. He was up against an up and coming, young defense that has playmakers on it. The Rams aren't the Browns by any stretch. their record reflects their offense, not their defense. Just like us. We are NOT a good football team. We are NOT a 10-6 team either. We are NOT one or two guys away from contention. What we are, is a team in desperate need of a reality check. We don't have a lot of talent in the positions that aren't the glamour positions. We suck on the OLine and it wouldn't have matter if it was Petty, or Fitz, or Steve Young out there today, they all would have failed. Why? We lack talent on the OLine. We lack talent in the booth too. The gameplan today was f'n pathetic. PATHETIC! Petty is a rookie, but if you're gonna have a gameplan like the one Popeye came up with today, you might as well had Hack in the game. That gameplan had ZERO chance of succeeding which means Petty had ZERO chance as well. I hope they go back to Fitz next week. I will enjoy watching him and Gailey getting their asses handed to them by Belichek. The more Fitz plays, the better our draft pick although I don't have the confidence in Macc that I used to. I think he'll fck it up again with a defensive pick instead of BPA Oline. These are the Jets. The franchise where Qb's come to die. If this is how they plan on developing Petty, I pray Macc trades him this offseason for a DP. It would be better for Petty.
OP, I don't know if you've ever seen a rookie/2nd year play in their first game in the NFL, but Petty played as expected. Safe and simple throws to get the hang of things. They will increase the complexity as he play more games, but he will obviously be on a leash for the rest of the season. That's how it works in any profession. You don't expect the 1st or 2nd year to light the world on fire. You bring them up slowly. It's good that Petty is getting real time experience and I would hope that Hackenberg gets a few snaps in the 2nd half of a game.
I'm up in the air about starting Petty against NE. He'll likely get killed, it could mess with his confidence. At the same time putting Fitz in give the variable that he could have an on week and they pull of an upset. Or he pulls off a good enough game that Bowles starts questioning himself and leaves him in leading to more wins and a worse draft pick.
Tank and get some great draft picks Dump Revis that POS and lots ofother a holes Semi demolotion time
