My first requirement would be someone who gives a shit. Clearly, Revis is not that guy. Why are you so defensive of Revis?
^This^ I think I see the hand of Woody all over this. They threw a shitload of money at two players whose best days are clearly behind them, and they would not have done that without Woody in on it. He spent $28 M on memories. It was certainly his call. Neither TB nor Mac had the feathers nor the track record to tell him either was a bad decision. And just as Woody is loyal to Todd, Todd is also loyal to Rogers and Boyer, despite that the defense and special teams have been an absolute fiasco all year. There seems to be no answers to the same thing that's been happening over and over for 8 games. Well, that's on the coaches. Period.
I don't believe there's an on-field leader in that bunch. And they're all bewildered that the Moses they were asked to follow is himself more lost than when he got here. No one will tell a HOFer to get off the field.
You don't pay $16M to a guy who needs help. That just won't fly. Who's gonna go tell the other guys on the field they have to their own job and now part of his - the guy who's probably making more than double any of the rest? Face it, we're stuck with it the way it is, unless he retires, and that's not likely. He's "clipping his coupons" until December.
Don't mean to come off that way. I do share your disgust with Revis playing the way he is. Maybe Revis should bench himself until he's right. The question is, do we have anyone that's a better option than a less than 100 percent Darrelle Revis? I just want to win.
the hell you can't give help to a guy, any guy, no matter what he is making!!! Players in a football locker room aren't stupid. They aren't just robots that look at the salary sheet and thats it. They know when a player is struggling, when a player is dogging it, or when a legend doesn't have it anymore. They would respect the coaching staff MORE if they were salary-blind and tried to fix problems no matter if its coming from a $16 million player or a bare minimum player. You are sending a worse message to the team by doing what you suggest -letting a guy fail just because he makes more money
I think the biggest problem with Revis right now is that he's just not playing his game. Whether that's because of scheme or a lack of confidence in his ability, I'm not positive, but he's never been a corner who plays 10 yards off of ANYONE, not even Calvin Johnson. At his best, Revis is jamming guys at the line of scrimmage, knocking them off their routes/timing and basically running their routes for them. He's never been a guy who has relied on his physical tools, like Patrick Peterson/Antonio Cromartie for example, but on significant study time and physicality at the line of scrimmage. I personally think it's a combination of Bowles' scheme which plays A TON of soft zones and that Revis is not putting in the same effort in the film room. I don't think we play much man-to-man coverage at all really. Our defensive scheme does not fit our players. I think that's pretty apparent. Not a defense of Revis, just an oservation. Maybe not quite the same player, but it's hard for me to envision someone with his style of play dropping off that quickly.
I've noted before that Revis is playing like an ass full of hemorrhoids and this video proves it, LOL. Too be fair though, it looks as though he's got some injury ailing him enough that he is unable to be himself.
The sad part is who the hell else do we have at corner better than Revis? Marcus Williams looks awful.Roberts actually looked decent yesterday but not expecting much consistency out of him. Skrine is a penalty machine.
We shall see. But barring a major change unforseen at the present (someone "leaves"), all that's gonna happen is more of the same. Oh, they'll rotate coverages around some for obvious reasons, but the need to make changes was obvious 7 games ago and it hasn't happened. What we've seen is what we're going to get. Coaches can be stubborn when the system they've spent time and energy developing doesn't work. edit: Look, here's the situation: the highest paid player on the D is also the worst player out there, week after week. However no matter how badly or how often he F's up - which is a LOT - he's never pulled. You say far too many intelligent things to not know that's a problem. What do you tell a younger player? Play better or get benched? That's just a double standard, and your locker room can't survive that for long, if at all.
I seem to remember our corners looking better when Revis was out, but it's not like I'm reviewing game tape or something.
Revis needs to get his confidence back, every CB has been beat but they know how to forget about it the next play Revis was never beat so now this is a shock to him, he needs to learn to forget about it and play like he knows how to play . He will bounce back my prediction he picks off Brady takes it back to house and is normal again
Pryor is one of the next big things at WR. Revis held him without a catch in the 2nd half other than a 2 pt conversion. Good halftime adjustments by Revis, Bowles, Kacy and the secondary coaches.
When you make 16 mil you don't get to give up 100+ yards in one half and pat yourself on the back and say great game.
