The Chicago Tribune reports that the Bears are probably going to trade or cut Cutler after the season. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sport...-bears-mulligan-spt-1027-20161026-column.html If Fitz is a goner, neither Petty nor Hack impresses, and we don't get a high draft pick, would you be interested? He'll be 34 years old next September and has a career passer rating of 86, 2 years younger and 2 points higher than Eli Manning. I'm not sure Brandon Marshall would be okay with that, but there's no guarantee Marshall will be a Jet next year. Bringing in Cutler wouldn't be unlike the Cardinals going for Carson Palmer, who was much less popular as a Raider than he is now.
I said No but I wouldn't be surprised if Woody forces Mack to go get him. I am not a long time Jets fan like most of you and my experience is only for 8 years but seems to me Woody sees Jets as a business and as long as he keeps Jets relevant and in the news, he is OK. Not saying he doesn't care about winning, I say he cares more about being relevant in NY media. Cutler will give him what he wants. But I say NO to Cutler.
Tim Tebow, Quincy Carter, Brooks Bollinger, Kellen Clemens....sure, why not. I always thought you needed to sail to the Island of Misfit Toys, but apparently you can fly there as well.
As a free agent pickup, I'd consider it. I wouldn't pay a high price in terms of salary or trade compensation though. I don't think he has the temperament for NYC, but he's better than what we have on the roster.
Please God no. Can we stop going after washed up average to below average quarterbacks and start grooming our own? Knowing the way this franchise works they're probably going to throw a massive contract at him and beg him to come.
He's better than the rest of the trash we've recycled at quarterback since Pennington. Martellus Bennett said it best though in that he's only a leader because the coaching staff says so. I'd much rather take our chances with a high intangible player in the draft that comes from a winning program but might have lesser physical talents. He seems like a piece of trash human being and he and Marshall don't get along. Chicago should've rode the hot hand in McCown a couple years ago and see what would've happened. In short, no. But something tells me Woody's gonna force them to take a look.
Nice comparison in Palmer though. He was viewed as a cancer after demanding to be traded with the Bengals. I don't think we have the infrastructure that the Cardinals have (specifically in a strong personality and high character coach like Arians) to handle that though. Maybe Cutler goes back to Denver? He could be a good acquisition in the right situation. We, however, do not have that situation.
Mac ought to have a good idea by the end of the season if Petty is going to be a viable starter next season. He ought to have some idea about Hack. If he doesn't feel confident in either of them, then he needs to take a QB in the 1st round if there are any he likes. I believe that one of Petty or Hack will be the starter next year. If not, then I hope Hoyer or someone of that level will be available. I'd rather fold the franchise than bring Cutler in.
Only way we go after him is if there is reason to expect Petty and Hackenburg have no future. And we are a ways away from finding that out.... if we invest in a short term established QB there may already be other options out there as well.
This is such an insipid idea that's been discussed ad nauseam. There is zero upside and he is only marginally better than Fitztragic.
Eh. Think I was sending my friend (who's a Pats fan) an FU txt.... must have gotten my signals crossed.
