We agree fully. If they want to actually develop Hackenberg and give him the best shot at success, they shouldnt start him. But if Geno shows who he is, and Petty flops, who would they go to? Fitz or Hack? Its not so clear cut. Maybe getting Hack some low pressure reps in a lost season wouldnt be so bad for him.
I give geno 3 games minimum its up to him t keep petty on the bench after that. if he is not moving the ball and scoring points I'd go to petty for the next 5 games minimum he determines whether hack gets the last 2.
I want Petty at QB ASAP, but IMO starting Geno before Petty is ready is worse than leaving Fitz in for two reasons. First, Geno has been such a jerk his whole time with the Jets that starting him sends a worse message to the team than sticking with Fitz. And second, if Fitz rebounds, it's still easy to pull him for Petty. Whereas if Geno plays halfway decent, he might stick around through much of the season, take Petty's chance away, and then give us a major headache this offseason.
Anyone not named Ryan Fitzpatrick. I'm sure half the posters are TGG couldn't have performed that bad this year.
I'm not sure there's any such thing as "low pressure" reps in the NFL. Most teams go after rookie QBs to rattle them. You KNOW that the Pats and Bills will. The only way I could see Hack getting some "low pressure" reps would be in the last few minutes of a game vs one of the weaker teams on our schedule when the game is basically already over because we're either way behind (as usual) or miracle of miracles, we're winning a laugher. IMO if Geno shows who he is (who most posters here think he is), and Petty flops, then go back to Fitz. He's being paid $12 million. He can take the beating on the field and from the fans for his suckass play.
I have no idea how Hackenberg or Petty will play. I assume the coaches do, which is why they are on the inactive list. Nothing else is going to matter unless the Jets can find a QB. I really want to know how seriously the Jets made a play for the #1 or #2 picks. 5 rookie QBs picked this year have already played in the NFL in the first six weeks, and while Brisset and Paxton Lynch are nothing to write home about, Prescott, Wentz, and even Cody Kessler have been better than anything the Jets have had for a long time, and that's not even counting Jared Goff. I'd be interested in trading for Tony Romo at this point.
Tony Romo? He can't stay healthy and is older. No thanks! The Jets need to forget this "win now" nonsense and the older mediocre QBs and focus on finding a young franchise QB. Nothing else matters until they find that QB. Maybe it's Petty, maybe it's Hack, or maybe it's someone they draft this year or next year, but the focus needs to be on going with a young QB and letting him learn on the job as our HCs and GMs have been.
ANYBODY other than Fitzpatrick. Todd Bowles stupidly named Fitzpatrick the 2016 starter LAST year ("If he returns, he's our starter") which is why he has stuck with him this far. I think he got a call from Woody or Mac today as I see he is now wavering on his support of Fitz.
Installing Smith would only take this team out of the frying pan and into the fire. All things considered, especially the coaching situation, makes it very hard for the Jets to improve this season with Fitzpatrick at quarterback; Smith makes it impossible. (And if you weren't trying to stack the deck the question would have had four straight up options available, not two with parenthetical remarks. Maybe five if you count finding a guy stocking shelves in a supermarket.)
Wrong. Smith has his downsides, but he has a stronger and more accurate arm. Opposing teams won't be able to stack the box with 8 players, which will open things up for the rushing attack and underneath routes. I doubt he's the answer going forward, but he certainly couldn't be any worse than Fitz has been this season (O TDs and 11 interceptions in the 2nd half). Koopa wasn't stacking the deck. There were not four, much less 5 options at QB. Hack is not a viable option, neither is signing some guy off the street who doesn't know the offense. If you had a clue, you'd know that.
The bottom line is it's Geno or Fitz at this moment...Bowles is not playing Hack or Petty yet The majority of Jet fans would rather see Geno over Fitz, sorry you were wrong about that
Geno now, to cross all the ts and dot all the is. Petty next. Fitz to be shaved everywhere, dipped in honey and feathers and sent down the 5th Ave thus creating Broadway Chitz.
First - message don't matter any more. What chemistry are you afraid to unbalance? Second - Geno playing halfway decent is same old Geno. Powder it up, sprinkle with Polo Blue and sell to highest bettor for a bag of footballs.
Petty..... we all know what Geno is...... and he's probably gone at the end of the year so why waste time on him? Plus he's actually getting pissed that he's sitting! If he was worth a shit we never would've bothered with Fitz..... I seriously think the punch he took rendered him stupid!
I didn't vote because I want Petty to start, with Geno as the #2. Hack just isn't ready and he is too raw. Petty is a 4th round pick in his 2nd year and its time to see what he can do before we draft next year. Its time to cut Fitz and move on. This year is over and he isn't the future.
It makes no sense cutting Geno or Fitz. People don't seem to realize TB has not given up on this season yet. If he has he needs to be fired right now. I know the chances are very slim the Jets make the playoffs. But the chance is still there.
What if Geno wins all those games? And looks good? Do you still with Petty? I know your reply and anyone else is going to say that will never happen. Plus not answer the question.
What's wrong with Geno's getting pissed that he's sitting? You mean you'd be happy with a player that doesn't want to start, and is just happy collecting his paycheck sitting on the bench. Geno even said that he didn't mind playing so much if the team was winning. There's absolutely nothing wrong with his attitude or what he said regarding that.
My point is, he's more than earned his seat on the bench..... he's lucky he has a job at all let alone a starting one! It's like he forgot how freaking terrible he was! Like I said, if he was as good as he thinks he is, we would never have had to even trade for Fitz!
