I would like to write-in vote that the Jets should move to China.

Right now I'd rather see Vinny Testeverde 49 years old play as opposed to seeing Shitz ever play for us again

I'd start Geno until the bye then Hackenberg. We need to figure out if he has anything to work with and draft a QB in the first round if not. This season will be a complete and utter waste if we go 5-11, get a pick outside the top 5 and don't get a preliminary evaluation on Hack.

And that's exactly what's going to happen.

Only way Bowles has a chance to keep his job next year is if he makes the switch and petty gets some serious game experience.

It's interesting that Bowles absolved Fitz of all blame in his post game presser. Blamed the ol and held Fitz completely unaccountable. Thats not a man who is willing to make a change. If he does(which he wont) then it should be Geno this week and then Petty next week. Leaving Petty until after the bye means his first start is against the pats, he needs games before that

If the team has both QBs in their future plans, I'd spend the rest of this season giving them each a half in every game so they both get valuable reps and audition time.

Barring a one sided advantage, I wouldn't call it an actual qb comp until next training camp.

After Baltimore L, I would let go of Gailey and see what you got in Patullo and Petty, you have to see both of their values in an increased role. True there are many more problems but at some point there has to be accountablity. Letting Kacy Rodgers go is more of a plausible option because it's Bowles' D. I understand you need to stay consistent with FO and staff but it has regressed so poorly, will Bowles make it?
There are a lot of questions certainly, OL, secondary, edge rush, motivational issues but as we've seen maybe moreso than ever this season HC-QB combo is life and death of organization.

  11. Maybe we're better off not seeing Petty. He at least gives us...albeit false...but nonetheless HOPE for the future.

The guy couldn't beat out Fitz OR Geno.thats a REALLY bad sign.I give him another year to absorb & another offseason to improve. I go into next year with Petty/Hack/Rookie.....Let the chips fall where they may

I'm not worried about the ridiculous "You need a vet w. experience" nonsense. The second the media starts in w. that crap us fans should be crucifying them. The position needs drastic change & NEW LIFE.....a has been veteran back-up who already has proven to be ineffective brings NOTHING.You can look at this very reason why we are log jammed w. Geno..instead of moving on from a guy we don't like & doesn't wanna be here. "Experienced back-up" my ass. That is CRAP!

here is our HC comments, "declaring that there’s no quarterback controversy at the moment: He’s sticking with the veteran. “It definitely wasn’t Fitz’s fault,” Bowles said. “He barely had time to throw.”

AAAAAAAAAAAA coach, when he did he was INACCURATE.... BENCH him because Fitzpatrick finished 16 for 31 for 174 yards and a 55.0 passer rating.

Then we have GeNO who comes in and fumbles and throws and INT.... What a mess.

I like NC comments... start Geno and then Petty to give him reps. He can not be any worse then what we see today.

One more very important point.... I do not know if everyone caught it but one of the reports said that Woody is not happy with the performance of the team.... the clock is ticking Bowles.

I think he would have beaten out Geno, except for the shoulder injury he got in the last preseason game that had him out until last week. After they gave Fitz $12 million he wasn't beating out Fitz no matter what.

10 games left. The Jets need to know what they have with their young QB's.

    1) Start Geno against the Ravens to evaluate his progress, give Petty two weeks to prepare as a starter.
    2) Petty starts against the Browns then Dolphins. This gives Petty as soft a launch to his career as possible. If he isn't progressing or has a tough time of it against the Pats on Nov 27th:
    3) Switch to Hack against the Colts, Niners and Dolphins. Same reason as Petty.

I'd rather they don't go with Hack this year, but I have a feeling he will be seeing the ball.

Fitz had his chance. I enjoyed last season and thought he could have a Gannon like return, but he has only gotten worse. No reason he should play another snap for the Jets unless the other guys are injured.

The fact there's a chance we see 4 QBs suit up and play in one season because of suckage and not injury (ala the Browns)....

You're not going to get any kind of accurate or realistic reading on Hack this season. We know his fundamentals are fucked up and his accuracy is a joke. We also know his confidence is shaky due to the pounding he took at PSU. Put him in behind this shaky OL, and he would have zero chance of succeeding.

His confidence needs to be rebuilt as do his fundamentals. His confidence will flow from comfort and success with his fundamentals. Putting Hack in behind this OL with his shit fundamentals would be the worst possible move one could make. It would make certain that Hack never develops into a quality NFL QB.

Petty is the more ready QB, and should be given the opportunity. How can you possibly rationalize skipping Petty and playing Hack? That makes zero sense.

Kurt, I like you and really respect your opinion, but I don't think you could possibly be more wrong in your sentence that I bolded. Petty was NEVER in a competition with Fitz or Geno, especially Fitz. Bowles said last season that Fitz was his starter. Everything that Mac and Bowles said during the off season and preseason clearly indicated that Fitz was the starter and Geno was going to be the backup. That point was made even clearer after Petty struggled so badly in OTAs. Petty and Hack were developmental QBs. Hack was going to get a redshirt season and not play at all. Petty changed things a bit and opened the door a little with his play in preseason, but then he got injured, and it was a moot point.

Petty's injury was either worse than the Jets claimed, or the conspiracy theorists are right, and Mac wanted to give Hack a chance to pass Petty on the depth chart. If the latter is the case, then either it's a matter of Mac being in love with Hack and not really giving Petty a chance, or the Jets aren't that high on Petty. In those scenarios, the only way Petty is a realistic hope for the future is if his injury was more serious than the Jets revealed, and that's perhaps if his rotator cuff wasn't torn. If it was, he could wind up being another Pennington-type noodle arm.

I think that Petty showed enough in preseason to merit an extended look this season. The Jets need to find out for certain what they have in him and if can realistically challenge for the starting position or even be a suitable backup. If not, they are definitely going to need to bring in another QB next year to start or at least challenge Hack and back him up.

As far as the veteran backup goes, I agree with you, but unless Woody signs off on a rebuilding-type year where the Jets go with a youth movement and start either Petty, Hack or a rookie and let them take their lumps, I don't see that happening.

I was with you up to your 3rd point. You said you'd rather they not play Hack this year, and I agree, but you may be right about Mac or Bowles wanting to and planning to play him. We both need to hope that you're wrong. I think you agree that Hack should not see the field this year. He has zero chance of succeeding until his fundamentals are fixed (so he has some hope of getting close to 60% accuracy, and gets his confidence rebuilt. After the pounding he took at PSU, and the way the OL has been playing, do you really think Hack would stand any chance of playing well and succeeding? I don't. I think his confidence would be further eroded, and most likely, any chance he ever had of developing would go down the drain.

If that happens, I will lose a lot of confidence in and respect for Mac. He has said all along that Hack should not see the field and should get a redshirt year. If he goes against his own better judgment in some sort of panic mode, then he isn't the GM I thought he was. The same thing goes if Woody wants it and Mac buckles and gives in to Woody. He needs to tell Woody to back off and let him make the decisions regarding the football team.

Geno for a few games and give Petty all of the 2nd string reps

If Geno keeps his job by playing well then fine but if he's bad and the team is losing we can move to Petty as soon as week 8 or so

This plan or something close to it seems to be the consensus

Would love to hear from the people that voted Fitz
