I've had it up to here with Rookie head coaches, our last five head coaches have all been rookies and it shows. We need a head coach with experience coaching on this level who actually knows how to make a game plan on both sides of the ball. But of course we're the Jets so that won't happen. And no more taking defensive players in the first round, somehow we've taken all of these defensive players every year since 2010 and yet our defense still sucks. Draft an WR or game breaking RB or if you get lucky a good QB And for the love of god please tank, just bottom out for a season or two and get a couple of high draft picks.
I agree but Ryan got us to two championship games in his first two years with fuckin Sanchez as our Qb, one who had never played a down in his life. In general though rookie HCs are a crapshoot.
Who do you suggest? Not like there are many experienced HCs just sitting waiting for the Jets job. I would back up the brinks truck for Cowher, Gruden or Harbaugh but it is extremely unlikely either are coming here. If not then who?
Does anyone find it strange that although there are only 32 HC jobs in the NFL, no one other than first timers ever seem to want to coach the Jets..?
Yea there's no way it's true. Problem is we can't just hire a coach with experience for the sake of it. I don't want a Jim Mora or a Mike McCoy if/when he gets fired or that type of retread who basically needs to beg for another shot. In a perfect world we could lure a Harbaugh or someone but it's not happening. How much would it take to lure McCarthy from GB and bring Rodgers with him?
You'd have to look at who could be shown the door if their team imploded or underachieved this year... John Harbaugh Marvin Lewis Mike McCoy Gus Bradley Sean Payton Harbaugh or Payton would be amazing hires, but I doubt either get shown the door. They seem to have ridiculous amounts of slack in their cities due to their rings. I think Cincy will also claw back into playoff contention, preserving Lewis's job. It's not a great year for potential retreads. I did see an article speculating that the Packers may need to move on from McCarthy. He'd be an interesting name if that were to occur, but I doubt it will.
Who is available and turning down the Jets though. Can't count Cowher or Gruden because it just doesn't seem like they have any interest coaching again. Do we really want Doug Marrone coaching them? I certainly don't. I guess I would take my chances with McDaniels and Haley, at least they have previous HCing experience with an offensive background but we both know that no way McDaniels is even considering the Jets.
Didn't Payton just sign a long extension? He's a guy I'd give a blank check to but I don't think he's going to be availabile for a long time. McCarthy intrigues me and I'm sure he'd probably be terrible here because of no Rodgers but I'd take that risk over hiring a bland guy just because he has experience.
Yeah sure, Payton, Harbaugh and McCarthy would be great choices. Only problem is they are employed by other teams and unlikely to be available. So that leaves us with McCoy, Bradley?? Ugh
If Bowles is shown the door at some point how about actually hiring an offensive minded Head Coach and try and put ourselves in the best position possible to develop a young QB? The Jets love Defensive Coordinators who are getting their first shot at being a HC.
Todd Haley, pittsburgh OC. Experienced HC with an innovative offensive mind. He fits everyone's criteria.
Offense? How dare you utter that word in Jets circles? It would be a miracle if they ever got a proven, veteran HC who knew offense. On a side note, the secondary is absolutely atrocious this year. I said it was the biggest disappointment a few weeks back and it's really proving true. Just fucking horrible!
