Yes, because it was the right thing to do and Mac caved like a guy who did not understand that he had all the leverage.
Fact is we were going to be 1-4 and probably no better than 2-6 regardless of the QB, so why throw fucking $$ away on a 1 year waste of time. Being that he did not realize it, means he is probably not as bright as we want him to be.

He wasn't pointing it out, he was asking a question. He may believe that those of us opposed to signing Fitz would blame Mac for a 1-4 start if we started Geno or another journeyman but he certainly didn't declare it. And the answer to his question would be no, we wouldn't be calling for Mac's head if we were 1-4 because our QB situation sucks.

You declared his question to be a truthful position about what other people would do, which is why it's a Strawman without any truth whatsoever.

Not to mention that his question is based on false premise that the record itself is what is drawing anger towards Mac, which is wrong. Mac is being criticized for the Fitz resigning for his belief that Fitz had the ability to make us better than 1-4, otherwise there was no reason to sign him since we could be 1-4 with some other scrub. It's his judgement that is warranting the criticism not the record in isolation. Nothing about his question, or your defense to it, reflects any truth about the criticism.

Mac added a ton of talent to the team he inherited with almost no talent anywhere.

He stole Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte from the Bears for almost nothing.

He got his coach a boatload of starting talent.

Clady and Carpenter were nice pickups on OL.

He also got the steal of the draft last year in Williams.

Please tell me how Bowles has done as many things right as Mac has.

The only thing you can really fault Mac for IMO is going Hackenberg over other QB's at this year's draft and that hasn't affected this year's team 'at all' unless you believe Dax would have been a star for us without Zeke Elliott or the Cowboys' offensive line.

Sometimes even the right moves don't work out though. Bringing back Revis was the right move, hasn't worked out. Signing Fitz short-term was the right move but that hasn't moved the needle this year. Bowles was highly regarded around the league, that isn't working out.

I'm glad some people are coming around and not just parading around saying mac is a god. i took a ton of heat when i questioned whether the moves he made were wise... parcticularly investing in older players when he took over for idzik mid rebuild... also that he inherited the cap room and high pick that idzik worked to create.

not saying mac has done a bad job. but it was sac religious back then to even suggest he wasnt doing an amazing job.

with mac its going to come down to how his draft picks pan out... and how long he stays with bowles.

this isnt accurate at all. "inherited no talent" wilkerson/richardson/harrison are pretty talented.

he also inheritd 55 million in cap room and the #6 overall pick.

there was no where to go but up as well coming off 4-12.

im not sold on forte as some great pickup.

    This
This 1,000%. Most of the 12 Idzik picks from 2014 are not on anyone's roster and completely out of football.

So does that mean you are giving Bowles a pass?

Fitz has been terrible. I thought he was going to be terrible because he has generally been a bad QB throughout his career (although he had a career year last year), especially against good teams. The problem Mac had was that if he didn't sign Fitz and the team crapped out (not unlikely given their schedule), then Mac would be blamed for not resigning Fitz and no one would have thought they would be this bad with Fitz. However, if you looked at Fitz's historic numbers against good teams, it was pretty clear that Fitz was going to be a disaster with the Jets schedule this year. I think he should have told Fitz to go pound sand when he wouldn't sign for $8 million, but that takes a lot of guts because he'd had been blamed for the crappy start.

If Mac can unload some of these high paid veterans for draft picks and cap space before the deadline he will earn a pass.

Yeah, if he can halfway make up for the hundred million dollars he wasted, he'll be just fine. For a 1980s stock broker jumping out of a window.

If Mac is making terrible personnel decisions based on fear of being criticized if he doesn't then he has no business being the GM of a fantasy football team nevertheless an actual football team.

A GM needs to be pragmatic in the face of moronic fans and media demanding emotional satisfaction.

Agreed. In-season trades are rare, but we should embrace a full rebuild. Only contenders would be likely buyers. The most logical candidates would be Marshall & Richardson.

Not that it's contributing to the losing, but the trade for Brandon Shell was disturbingly bad.

Going forward, he needs to be heavy-handed with players negotiating for each other by no-showing (Marshall, Decker). He also can't be so hesitant that viable backup options (Hoyer) are no longer options.

I don't disagree with the last part...and so far his drafts don't look too great.

He was stupid for not having signed Fitz immediately to less money. Had they done it early they could have spent less. It doesn't matter if he's playing backup if he's getting paid backup money.
