I loved Walt Michaels,,,,,,,,talk about fire and emotion,,I wish I was on that plane coming home from the mud bowl,,,,,,,the real stories have never come out totally but I really liked Michaels
I agree. I was just pointing out possibilities for cap space to help the team improve next season, and would the risks/rewards would be. With the Jets needing to revamp their secondary and still needing at a minimum a quality RT, and possibly a QB, they need to find a way to make Clady work. Whoever the QB will be will need every target he can get. B Marshall, Decker, Enunwa, J. Marshall, Anderson, Peake, ASJ, Forte and Powell would help a rookie/young QB a lot, and both Marshall and Decker have been good Jets. By next season, I don't think they'd be upset if the Jets release Fitz. They'd get $19,208,333 in cap savings by cutting just Gilchrist, Revis and Harris. They don't need Giacomini. Ijalana & Qvale have been just as good, maybe better than Giacomini so far, and if they draft an OT fairly high, they won't need him. Adding Giacomini to that would give them $23,708,333, less the $5 million they'll have to eat for getting rid of Fitz. Hopefully, with that $18,208,333 they get from those 4, they could sign two young, good players from among ILB, FS, and CB.
First round of cuts at the end of the season: Revis Fitzpatrick Harris Giacomini Folk (no point in paying that much for a kicker when your team sucks) Gilchrist Tons of money to sign some younger free agents. Draft BPA. Pray for a QB to free up from another team or fall to them.
I have to say keep Folk precisely because the team sucks. Also, Revis at a discount. Fitztragic can take a walk. Screw that guy.
I agree about Folk, but not Revis. I can't see Revis accepting a big pay cut. Even if he did, however, I don't think he' played well enough this season to merit much above vet minimum.
I'm good except for the BPA part. We don't have the luxury to draft yet another BPA when probably we already have someone at that position. Drafting Williams was great but doing that moved Sheldon to OLB which is a waste. Thank goodness Sheldon can play there periodically but we're already slow enough at LB. We need help on the OLine, the Secondary, Running Back, Qb so if we must go BPA, let it be BPAOL, BPADB, BPAQB, BPALB, etc...
The next HC IMO should be MIKE WESTHOFF. Quite frankly, I am so fucking sick and tired of having Woody hire guys with no past involvement with the NYJ. Mike Westhoff is home grown talent and a true master at what he did coaching wise. There is no one who is more deserving of an opportunity than Mike Westhoff, yet Woody always completely skips right over him. The guy hasn't even gotten a fucking interview for the job since 2009 when Rex was ultimately hired. Westy is a legend and he's even mentioned on SNY that he would come back if someone wanted to hire him to be a HC.
My man, I love your optimism but where do you see "winnable" games for this team with the mess it is right now? Arizona on the road? Two against New England? Even Baltimore and the Rams aren't gimmes like they seemed like they were previously. Indy is certainly not a gimme, that will likely be a shootout and I know I don't trust Fitzpatrick in a shootout. Still have Buffalo left. Only games we can point to as "should" wins are Cleveland , San Francisco, and the two Miami games. And..........this is the Jets. If everything goes great, they might get to 7-9. More likely we're looking at 6-10 or worse.
Over the Summer I posted regularly what a real POS Mevi$ would turn out to be this season In addition that Gilchrist and Williams were nothing great I defended Fitz and he has been a complete let down..of course Geno is much worse All 4 cant get the job done and are basically expensive rip offs We need to draft offense in the first rounds and get a stud CB later Big contracts in Football eg Mo Wilk and others are so much more risky than baseball cause in FB you don't get 100 games to prove your worth it I am ready to see the young QBs take the field if RF falters again I don't have all the answers but maybe the youth movement and new Coaches start this year
Bowles did work for the Jets. And maybe the fact that no other team has reached out to Westhoff should give you pause about making him our HC.
No, it's a two year deal that voids automatically but leaves us with $5 million in dead cap money. So he screws us again next year with $5 million less to improve the team with. Luckily he's our best chance to win. That's going to be $5 million well spent.
