Being that this is the case, why would we still throw him out there? He offers nothing at this point...no future, no ability to score quickly or keep pace with a good offense
There's still a (very slim) chance we can turn the season around. And more importantly, there's no need to rush a QB change. If Geno were under contract past this year, I would say put him in now. But that isn't the case, so if someone else gets a chance I'd want it to be Petty. And we'd be better off waiting until the second half of the season to put Petty in so he can get healthy and face easier defenses.
the answer is Bowles/Fitz......take your pic whos first but theres literally one tiny Asian pussy hair separating them
The defense has been hyped up for years about being a big time D, I don't think one team is scared of them. It's so easy to pass on them every game. Who cares about the line run stuffers that generate zero pass rush. Only time they get sacks is when the Qb covers up the ball and gives up on the play. On the other side of the ball there is not one BIG PLAYMAKER
The D Line getting no pressure or turnovers and Wilkerson not doing what we paid him to.No turnovers ,the defense is the bigger problem to me and obviously Fitz .
I think we have to be somewhat realistic here - in the off season we feared the schedule as there was a good chance we could go 1-6, which unfortunately looks like a possibility. However the Jets are not the only team who had aspirations in the off season who have struggled once the season started. Bowles has made some really dumb calls - not going for it on that 4th down tonight was definitely one of them but the players also have to accept a HUGE lot of the blame. For me the biggest issue is either QB or the secondary Our QB - a guy who oversaw just 80 yrds or so of offence in the second half Vs Pittsburg. Admittedly he threw no picks but balls off target and not on the same page as his receivers - no offence but Marshall bailed him out when making a TD pass on an under thrown ball. He has also had a few HORRIBLE games gifting the outcome and is incapable of regularly converting in the red zone. The secondary keep giving up HUGE chunk plays due to an in ability to understand how they are supposed to hand off responsibilities.
I'll go with lack of competant QB and likewise coach. You can steal a couple of victories every year with that combination. Even if your other players screw up they sometimes function properly. But without that we are up a certain creek without a paddle.
I'd have to say that it's probably coaching. We pretty much knew what we were getting at QB when we resigned Fitzpatrick. Aside from the number of turnovers, the biggest problem this team has had has been the defense, and in particular the secondary. That's supposed to be Bowles' specialty. Combine that with his inexplicable in-game decisions, and I'd say that has to be considered the team's biggest problem. There are many others, though.
I say the defensive line, we've poured countless top picks and the bulk of payroll into it and it hasn't performed at all as advertised. Our defense stinks, plain and simple. Fitz stinks too and he's always going to have those games where you wonder how he is even in the NFL, but overall he'll be a middling QB like he always has been. But our defense is where we put everything into, and it stinks, nothing more to say, it's terrible. Revis suddenly aging ten years overnight, Prior taking steps back, Wilkerson? I'm not sure he's even on the field anymore. Forte is getting what? 1.2 YPC? Bowles and that punt lol what can you even say about that? How he thought he would hold the Steelers and pin them deep, get the ball back and somehow score twice with only two timeouts is beyond me. It was a terrible call, if I was the owner I would've called down and said "you're f***ing going for it".
Everyone keeps complaining about Bowles not going for it on 4th. Don't you see, he just wanted to put the ball in the hands (or on the foot) of the best player on the team-- our young punter.
I would like to hear the board's opinion on this week's version of the bomb TD pass..... Coates ran right by Marcus Williams but it looked like Pryor was on Williams' side and stayed in no-mans land. Did it look to you guys like Pryor was supposed to help and he screwed up (again) or was it just Williams' fault?
I noticed that too. And to add insult, you can clearly see Pryor just jogging towards Coates. If he hustled, he could've at least made him pay for the catch by lighting him up. But OF COURSE, this team seems to be satisfied being one of the worst in the league.
When the problems are this systematic and widespread, it says that it's the coach that's the problem. At the beginning of the year, the pass rush was pretty devastating. Andy Dalton and Tyrod Taylor were getting smacked around like a 10 dollar hooker. Also, it was damn near impossible to run on the D-line. Since the Chiefs game, they've gotten no pressure on the QB, blitzing is almost non-existent, and running backs run when and where they want all day long. They haven't had any injuries, so there's really no excuse. The only explanation is that the coaches have become less aggressive and/or so predictable that opponents know what we're going to do before even we know. As for the secondary, we all saw that Revis was nothing like his younger self last year, so it really came as no surprise this year. Also, with the exception of Cromartie, this is pretty much the same secondary we had last year. They weren't the Legion of Boom last year, but they also weren't giving up 40+ yard plays literally multiple times every game. Also, it isn't just the formerly-known-as-Revis-Island getting beat. EVERYONE is. That's saying to me that there are problems in the playcalling, coverage, and communication, not in the individual talent of the players. Again, they aren't a top 10 unit, but they shouldn't be the worst in the league. The offensive playcalling has been overly conservative, and extremely predictable. The Patriots aren't going to need to spy on us this year, as Chan Gailey practically emails the gameplan to our opponents before every game! Also, they rely on only a few players rather than spreading the ball around. If you lose one player and the entire offense loses almost all its production, then you have a problem in how you call the offense. You need to spread the ball around; if one guy is injured or locked down, then use the other weapons. The offense is absolute anemic. So, while Fitzpatrick's play has been subpar at best, and we ARE in need of a franchise QB, it is, once again, the coaches that are the problem. Bowles reminds me of Mangini: Always unprepared, overly conservative, unemotional, unrepentant for dumb mistakes, and unwilling to truly shoulder any blame for the team's performance. I highly doubt we win more than 4 games this year. In fact, I don't see us winning more than 2 or 3 games this year. When they hire a new coach, it can not, MUST not, be based on the idea of "We have x for our weakness, so our new coach should come from the team that had x as it's greatest strength." They need to hire a guy who just knows football. Not an offensive or defensive guru; not a guy known for developing QBs or putting together great secondaries. A guy who knows how to build and lead an entire team. If you only really know one part of game and need the coordinator on the other side of the ball to cover what you don't know, you're not head coaching material.
