Dude, smoke another bowl. Just watch Lee move out there, he's always flying around. Not his fault the whole team sucked last weekend. Kid's making plays and sticking his nose in there which is all you can ask.
Honestly, the guy is still thinking his way through a lot of these plays, wait till he gains some experience and it's second nature, no thinking just reacting. I think he is going to be better than we hoped for.
Maybe I should clarify my post a little as many of you seem to be questioning me. To know how I disapprove of this selection is to know what Todd Bowles is all about....... Last season, Todd Bowles rarely if ever played a 4-3 base alignment. He was as dumb and stubborn as anyone I've ever seen. With all that DL talent he still chose to go with a 3-4 alignment. STUPID. With that said, putting Lee in a 3-4 alignment is a complete waste of time. I always considered Lee to be a 4-3 player. But to my dismay, Bowles is actually playing vast majority this season as a 4-3 base and it makes sense. It's allowed Lee to be slightly more effective. But I question the pick mainly due to what Todd Bowles himself said around the time he'd been drafted. Bowles claimed Lee would play inside and outside AND would be covering TE's. Those are some of the most dubious claims I've ever heard and it amazes me that the Jets fan base actually fell that for that crap? Did anyone see what Travis Kelce did to the Jets just last Sunday? And they CLAIM he'll be covering Gronkowski?! That's a complete crock. On top of that, he's so small that he routinely gets owned by RB's due to his size. He had it happen at least a few times during training camp. When a truly BIG RB goes at him and he's the only left between the RB and the EZ??? That is not going to end well. And really that's the long and short of it. The Jets got a lightning quick version of Verne Troyer, but they gave up the ability for Lee to play outside because he'll be successful there, they are now basically locked into a base 4-3 alignment whereas with a player of sufficient size they could keep a hybrid type defense, I doubt his ability to be able to tackle larger RB's than him, and the idea that he'll be covering Gronk is the dumbest bunch of nonsense I have ever heard..........
1) How many of the Kelce plays was Lee covering him? 2) Name at least 2 of the routine plays where RBs schooled him?
Looks better and faster every game. Lay off the downs man. Of course he's gonna make mistakes, every rookie does....... Imagine that, a defensive player getting blocked sometimes. Holy fucking shit! Oh no! That's some spot on observing by MJ. Wow.
I never said he was covering Kelce. Read my post. What I did post was that Todd Bowles claimed he'd be covering TE's. The very thought is one most insanely idiotic ideas I have ever heard. He will get tossed aside as a mere formality when Gronk runs into him. Darron Lee was owned several times in TC by equivalent sized running backs. It hasn't shown up in the regular season thus far, but remember we are only 3 games in. He's already shown signs of struggling to tackle even equivalent sized guys. But when he faces Gronk and they ask Verne to cover him???? The gig is up. That's when he truly gets exposed for the minor role player that he truly is. He's NOT an every down linebacker and looking back on the draft, the Jets needed to make a major splash. They needed a guy that could have an impact from day 1. They needed an every down player given the horrid schedule they face this season. To me this pick smacks of panic. Mac never imagined what happened in the draft happening. He had his eyes on an OL. That was obvious given the reports he attempted to trade up and get Laremy Tunsil. When things did not go the way he thought they would and he did not have a plan formulated he panicked, and the Jets ended up with this sawed off little runt running around. The Jets defense is a joke right now and Lee was supposed to be the solution and put the Jets defense over the top.
Okay, so you have a gripe with a coach's statements regarding a draftee - you probably complain about the unfulfilled promises of politicians, too. You also have a problem with the training camp performance of a raw rookie; the horror! And I see that, based entirely on nothing, you're already predicting failure for a rookie against a future Hall of Famer rather than just letting it play out and waiting to comment. It also seems that you have a unique talent to see that which you call obvious that is invisible to every other student of the game. You must get better "reports" than all the rest of us. Did you have a relative who got passed up in the draft?
Darron Lee was a hot steamy pile of dog sh*t today. His play was pretty bad right from the start. As I said, the idea of this guy being able to cover TE's is one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. He's a situational type player, not an every down player at best. He's a role player and nothing more. A true waste of a 1st round draft choice......
Youre kidding? He was one of the lone decent spots. How about harris and pryor? Theyre the real duds Sent from my SM-N930V using Tapatalk
The guy is a rookie. He was certainly an every down player for OSU and he will be for the Jets. If Henderson wasn't hurt, Lee probably wouldn't have been on the field so much already. He's been forced to play before he was ready.
i dont get the ginat homerific hyping of lee who like milliner had no business going in the first round but was overhyped due to playing on a dominant defense and because the coach wanted a matheiu clone. solid player, works hard... but the novelty/roleplayer assessment is spot on.
Sorry, I don't agree with this. With the possible exception of QB, anyone you draft in Round 1 should be able to start for your team. It's almost the definition of a first round pick. Otherwise, why draft him? If I was in charge of the draft for a team, that would be the first criteria, can he start right away?
