Rex challenged a 3 yard play and burned a TO in the 4TH QUARTER trying to draw the Jets off side. Is that the type of coaching this fan base is yearning for?
Absolutely. Don't mind trying to draw a team off side. But you can't burn a time out there. No way. They are too valuable. You have to have a play ready if the other team doesn't jump.
I think the fairest thing to do is to look at the record and leave the "positives/negatives" stuff alone. You are of the opinion that his 11-7 isn't particularly impressive, given the circumstances. That's a fair point of view. I tend to give first time coaches the benefit of the doubt - I like to watch them grow over several seasons before making definitive statements about them. I doubt I'll have a firm opinion on Bowles until the middle of next season. I was the same way with herm and mangini, who both ended up being very unpopular by the end of their tenures.
How often do FA spending sprees actually work? Teams talk all offseason about the talent they brought in and then the whole thing falls apart because the coaches can't integrate the players into the scheme. Bowles did. The punch happened when Bowles first got here. He cut IK, demoted Geno, and we haven't had an incident since. Both off the field incidents that got Richardson suspended happened before Bowles started his first TC. Last year we were the 5th least penalized team and had the 4th least penalty yards. At this point, you're arguing the details and I can spin the details either way. But the overall body of work suggests that Bowles is a promising young coach.
His teams are much more disciplined and you cant really argue that. A nice change up from Rex but he really has faults with game management and preparation. He is as stubborn as it gets with continuing to leave certain players on an island. Most coaches do their best to limit the opposing players best player but not Bowles.
how often does going from stephen hill talent to brandon marshall talent not yield results? how often does going from 2 glorified safties at corner in walls/allen to probowlers in revis/cro not yield results? how often does drastically upgrading qB not yeild results its obviously naive to think the 4-12 team was anything resembling the 10-6 team last year. and if you think bowles would have coached that 2014 roster to similar results as last years team you are off your rocker. the #1 reason for our turnaround was our GM, not our coach
Please continue hating Todd Bowles. It seems to bring us good luck. Please Rex Guys, hate everything Bowles does. Hate everything the Jets do positive. Please Rex Guys, Hate the HC of the NYJ's until we reach the post season. We don't want or need your approval to support the Jets. We're real Jet Fans and want to see the team AND THE HC do well. The rest of you can go on sulking about Fat Rex. We know who you are and we know why you hate. Too bad all your hate won't amount to a f'n thing just like Rexy's back to back AFCCG LOSSES..... Go Bowles! Go Jets!
Brandon Marshall seems like a blue chip beast now. But when we traded for him, we only had to give up a fifth rounder and got a seventh in return. Why? Because other teams were scared by his personality issues. But Mac went ahead and made the trade because he trusted that Bowles could keep Marshall in check. I'm far from confident that Rex could have done the same. The corners helped but adding one borderline elite corner and one nearly washed up vet (which Cro was last year) doesn't get you 6 wins. It takes more, like a coach who can help a star WR with mental issues stay on the right path on and off the field. Meanwhile, we only had to give up a conditional sixth/seventh rounder for Fitz. Why? As with Marshall, other teams had no interest. But Mac brought in Fitz because of Gailey, a Bowles hire. And that worked pretty well. My point? If we had a different coaching staff, you might not be singing Mac's praises for trading for Marshall and Fitz. Rather, you might be criticizing him for wasting picks on a character guy and a journeyman QB. So while Bowles would've had a similarly poor record in 2014, I believe that Rex would not have been able to get us to 10 wins in 2015.
I want to hear it straight from the horses mouth, i believe he has some valid points about defensive schemes and some adjustment issues with TB. However if this is only because it's a love fest for the clown aka Rex then I can take his threads with a grain of salt and not feed the hate.
Well, call me optimistic and a sunshiner, but I have to ask, is this 16 pager thread the craziest bunch of anti Todd and SOJ BS this NJ Jets site has seen to date? May be not, but let me see. We are still reeling in from a string of inneficient HC/GM combinations, from Kotite, to the painful Circus of Rex Ryan and we are bitching about a handful of rookie mistakes by a player coach, like 2 point conversion and conservatism. We get a rookie HC with a lot of credentials, strongly respected by other coaches and players alike, revitalizes in the first 2 years a lethargic organization, and immidiately establishes some respectability to a team that has been one of the laughing stocks of the league. He came within inches of a first year playoff, and could just as easily be 2-0 this season had the secondary play proper position football like the CS draws the plays and we call him mediocre? Have we not seen enough mediocre in Jet history to recognize this ain't it? He is not BB, granted, but then again who the fuck is. He is good enough to make us successful, and a proffessional that can be counted on. Giving credit to the players and the GM for all the success but all the failure to the HC to make a point is laughable. Particularly after this Thursday display of team unity and resolve against a gritty opponent. It simply shows that some will never, ever be happy with anything but the coulda shoulda woulda hindsight of fans that couldn't probably coach their way out of a paper bag. I'm sticking firmly behind Todd. Time with tell. As for Rex, I ain't missing him at all.
Frankly this stuff is ridicious for a second year coach who admitted he made a mistake about not going for 2 pts. When was the last time you heard Rex or any coach for that matter admit they blew it. Please if you hate him so much there is a team in Buff that can use your support.
