I expect very little out of smith this year. Its a combination of Fitz not being able to take advantage of his speed as well him probably missing half the season on an short term IR. Next year though our only 2 qb;s are hack and petty who both have the arm strength to take advantage of the blazing speed. Hopefully that is when we start seeing a return on this pick.

Yeah, the Jets really would have been worse off if they cut some of their second round draft picks after one season. How stupid would they have been if they cut Stephen Hill or Vlad Ducasse?
I think the big difference is we finally have a draft organization that knows football players, so we are no longer infected with picks that had no business playing in the NFL courtesy of prior incompetent GM and CS.
We shall see this year. Even with his limited exposure he is leaps and bounds a better receiver than S Hill ever was. Not even close.
How do we know this? I've seen them both drop easy passes.. seen them both score one TD... seen them lose us games (via drops) Devin Smith gets hurt every time he falls down.. I think Stephen Hill is the more athletic player.. (speed, size, vertical etc) to say it's not even close is completely made up..for all we know.. they look similar... at this point. hopefully DS drinking milk and getting his hands ready for Fitz's soft duck balls .
You still haven't answered. When was the last time an NFL team cut a second round pick after their rookie season? It's a ridiculous thing to even consider doing even if he turns out to suck you have to give your second round pick time.
Well you haven't really made a convincing argument and no one ever does it. So unless you have some compelling reason why the Jets should give up on a second round pick after one fucking season, maybe you should just move on and pretend you never said that.
It would be a fuckin terrible move. Its not like hes being paid mega $$, and he has been injured. Do you think every WR is going to be ODB or Randy Moss right outta the gate? Usually WRs dont even hit their stride until year 3 anyway, unless they are studs, and that doesn't really happen all to often. I agree that Fitz isnt the best QB for him specifically, but there is absolutely 0 upside to cutting him now. When his deal is up, and if he still hasn't showed anything, then you can cut him. Hes not even taking up a roster spot at the moment as he is on the PUP list. Dont even know why this is even being talked about to be honest.
I don't think Smith is soft but he for sure was proven to be injury prone. His first year was brutal and he was a liability when he was on the field. Im hoping the jets ir him for the season and we don't give up one of these young guys who deserves to make the team based solely on the fact Smith was a second round pick. When healthy Smith dropped more passes than he caught, he could not get any separation and for some inexcusable reason tried to return a meaningless kick back in the buffalo game which he subsequently fumbled and they scored. Nothing he did last year should warrant the jets holding a spot for him on the 53. Im not saying to cut him but he shouldnt play this year. He by his own words is not football ready and holding a spot for him would be a waste in my opinion.

No.. he doesn't play special teams and when he did play last year wasn't pretty. He is only still here because of how high he was picked. If he was 5/6/7 rd pick last year the jets would have reached an injury settlement with him and let him go.
The only time Smith will yield productive numbers, is by the time he is in his second deal here. It will be a gamble to keep him right before. If he is a paper tiger, which he seems to be, the front office will low ball him and he will move on to a team willing to take a gamble on his traits if they are still there.
