Right now I have no idea what happens when he is back with our WR depth chart. The WR's are balling out in preseason, sure there are drops but someone stands out every time in practice and preseason it seems
I love when ppl can tell if a draft pick sucks two years in and didnt even play much of last year cause of injuries. Its really hysterical, and on top of it why would you cut him on a rookie deal without giving him a full shot at playing. I swear you only hear this stuff from our fan base, I hope that isnt true but it seems like it more often with Jets fans.
He certainly didn't have an impressive rookie season. When was the last time any team cut a second round pick after one season?
Would have been tough to have a good rookie season - he had apunctured lung during camp and could not get any reps in so missed out on building chemistry with the QB - when he came back it showed as he & Fitz initially had trouble getting on the same page - there was some significant improvement in route running - his 16 yrd TD Vs Fins was really nice. You could also tell how his teammates feel about him when you saw how they were almost as excited for him and all ran to celebrate the TD. Tearing an ACL ended his season and he is on track to recover late again this year - will face same issues re chemistry. None of that sounds like a guy who "sucks" as if he did the locker room would not support him the way they did on that one - IMO.
judging by the quality of the Wr's trying to make the roster, Smith will have a tough time just making the cut if and when he gets healthy. His rookie deal will provide enough cover to get him thru 2016 but if any of these new Wr's make the roster and stands out in live action during this season, there will be more than one Smith on the way out..
Perhaps. We'll see. For certain, he's going to have to work his butt off to try to catch up. He missed a lot of important time last season. He'd better be mentally running through all his routes on the route tree, working hard to rehab, catching passes from the JUGS if he can and doing all he can to give himself a shot.
Wrong patterns, dropped passes, injury prone, he's got a big hill to climb...plus Chan likes big receivers
It would be nice if he could get his shit together and start sticking daggers in opposing defenses from the #4 WR spot.
He'd be a lock to make the roster if he was healthy. Hes still probably a lock, but 6 weeks is a lot of time for younger other receivers to step up and take his spot. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Even at his best he was only a one trick pony. Small, not the best hands, dislikes contact, poor route runner. The only thing he had going for him was his speed and you have to wonder if an ACL injury will affect that. Yeah, I'd be worried if I were him. What did he have that say - Robby Anderson -doesn't appear to have?
Supposedly, Smith was the best at tracking down long balls, and making adjustments to his stride, body position to catch the ball.
This plus his speed is why I think it's foolish to want to bail on the guy after an injury-plagued first year. We knew it was going to be and adjustment for him coming into the NFL and when you tack on a punctured lung plus a torn ACL, progress is probably going to be impeded. Now if we're in camp this time next year and it's still the same song and dance... people will have a right to bash the kid.
