I'd like to see Hackenberg get some action. Even if it is trotting on to the field, handing the ball off 3 times, then heading back to the bench. Could be good for him. Petty got playing time last Preseason. I get people saying his mechanics need work, so they are giving him a year to fix them, and putting him on the field could hurt. A little bit of game action, even in the 4th Preseason game, would be good though.

I wish I could say I was surprised by all the Hackenberg freakouts, but I'm not lol. There needs to be something to complain about.

My guess is Bowles thinks it is more important to figure out the backup QB, than to get the third string QB 10 snaps with a bunch of third stringers. There is no need to rush him out there.

    I'm sure he'll get a few snaps week 4.

I think in that 4th preseason game he'll get burn. The whole second half.

  4. From a team perspective in the short term...nothing is gained from playing Hack other than experience & giving the fans/media something to fawn over.

He needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. His footwork, ball placement & confidence took a major hit those last 2 seasons at Happy Valley.

They can afford to be extra cautious w/ his development. For one b/c there are 3 QB's ahead of him...2 of which are fighting over the back-up spot..also b.c keeping his reps limited avoids him having a lousy day, getting crucified by fans who don't like him & the media..in which case his confidence could be gone for good. For those who think of that as Coddling..maybe it is. But no body is questioning the guys toughness...and i don't think anyone is gonna question the guy's ability to be the face of a major market. Given the Jets current roster & situation they simply have the luxury of really honing in on rebuilding a guy w/ elite physical abilities, a top football mind at a premium position.

Best way to look at this as a fan is to take comfort in knowing how much growth Petty took from year 1 to 2. While Petty may have had alittle more spotlight & reps his rookie year...the paths are similar.Hack will likely play quite a bit against Philly. That will be his super bowl for this season. Then he goes to real work of absorbing the season to be, while improving confidence/footwork/accuracy in practice & offseason.Next year he's hopefully taken some steps in his development & w/ his superior upside..catches up to Petty giving us a QB battle for the ages.

If you cut Geno and Fitz or Petty gets injured in the third or fourth preseason game then who's your starter or backup QB? That's why Geno's still on the roster and likely will be until cutdowns.

Geno has really only done one good thing, and that was ushering out Sanchez. If Geno gets the boot, we will be better off.

FWIW, I'm agreeing with the "total reach" crowd. We could have had Paxton Lynch and a #2 pick. Instead we got Lee and Hack. This looks really bad IMO.

Kudo's to the guys talking up Lynch at the time--I wasn't one of them.

Very premature comment considering Lee could be a very good player for us and Hack has yet to prove himself. Lynch can't even get into a competition with Mark Sanchez.

lol, if Hackenberg can't handle getitng beat up against nfl fourth stringers, then he is not NFL QB period. Confidence isn't rebuilt on the bench... it's built when you actualy SHOW you can play well against the best of the best in the world.

I honestly believe he's going to be a bust, but I hope I'm wrong and don't mind the postivity. It's just hillarious that there are posters who don't think we should be concerned one bit that a supposed "high iq" player can't on the field for a series or two in the preseason, or even outperform Bryce Petty who is not advanced mentally, yet. What team drafts a twenty year old QB with a top fifty pick and places him as the fourth string QB before the preseason?

That is not true. Kubiak is hinting that it's possible Lynch could be the Broncos' week one starter. He's outperformed Sanchez and Siemian in the preseason.

How would that work for Petty to get all the practice reps, then expect Geno to actually be the backup and play decently if Fitz got hurt and Petty wasn't cutting the mustard? It wouldn't. Geno would be set up for failure and would sulk, Petty would be pissed, and the rest of the team would wonder WTF Bowles and Mac were doing.

I agree. That's why I said "some" posters, not "a lot" or "many" or "most." :)

Any judgement on any of these guys is premature and silly into two pre-season games in their first season. Good or bad. The truth comes out after a couple of years. There's exceptions tho. Maybe like a Dan Marino or somebody

Somebody may make a lucky guess about something or somebody they don't really know much about however from their couch

He always had a shot to start, but chances of him winning the job are slim to none. He "outperformed" them because he's playing against fringe roster players. I think they should let Semen get the start.

Oh I absolutely thought that was directed at me. My fault!

But he's also playing with fringe roster players. Time will tell but I think the guy's got the goods and we'll see it by midway through the season.

Perennial winners don't rush raw players on to the field when there are already capable players at the position . I know that we are far from having our franchise QB that we need, but with Fitzpatrick ready as the starter and geno as backup we all set to move forward this season . No need to make any desperate or risky personnel moves .
Consernig petty and hack , the seeds have been planted. They are not in the plans for this year and it's going to be a long time before we can know if they were good picks or not . I like to idea of having young, homegrown talent coming down the pipe line for the future rather than scrambling for a new QB every year.

No problem. You know me. If I disagree with something you say, I'll quote you and come straight at you. I won't be subtle. That's not in my vocabulary! :D;)

So it's like pitch and catch out there, it's not a good indicator on how good he is now. Things may change especially of the other 2 QBs are losing games. I would rather have Lee and Hack then just Lynch.

You obviously did not watch the Denver game and I don't blame you for that. Still, most who saw it have put PL in battle with MS now.
