I'm not sure why this is so difficult for you to understand. I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you're hammered.
So you would bet, Geno will be cut at the end of pre-season? Geno and Hack were chosen in the same round, which one would you let play a game right now?
I'm actually in a boat fishing, using a cell phone to reply. I'm not the one who doesn't understand. There are many possibilities to the out come, but only one can be right. Drafting Hack was a big fuck up. Why don't you understand?
Yes - Geno is gone. Hack isn't ready to play, but the draft isn't just for one season. They drafted Hack hoping he can be the QB of the future.
Its wasted because now Petty might make the leap and become #2 and eventually #1. Say Hack never plays a game for the Jets, is that not a wasted pick? Geno had better mecanic than Hack coming out I don't see him fixed. Its been 3 years. I agree with you about Macc player evaluations but I think he hit a dud with Hackenberg. Nobody gets it right everytime in scouting but I'm glad the Jets finally chose a guy that had a scouting background and really paid his dues.
Drafting Hack may prove to have been a fuck up over time but none of the hysterical nonsense you've been posting has anything to do with it.
If you buy 5 lottery tickets and the first one turns out to be the jackpot I guess you could consider the last 4 wasted purchases. But at that point who gives a fuck because you're rich. I'm perfectly fine with the Jets drafting a QB every year until they hit on one. If they hit on one and took one after the fact I couldn't care less if the pick was "wasted".
The problem with your bolded statement is that Hack hasn't made any real mechanical changes yet and hasn't had an offseason to work on those changes. Those kinds of changes take thousands of reps, not a handful. Gailey said that they've made a few suggestions, that's it. They're gonna wait until after the season is over to overhaul his mechanics. They know that he can take snaps from under center and read Ds. His accuracy is bad and that's due to poor mechanics. It's pointless to play him just so the fanbase can "see" what he can do. What good would it do for him to go out there and complete only 50% of his passes or less? They already know that's what he was doing. You don't know what will or won't hurt. I'm going to trust the pros (Bowles & Gailey). The fact that you think you know better or more is laughable.
Dude, you need to go back to your original comment to the first post of mine that you commented to. You my friend have been blurting hysterical nonsense since. Somewhere on page 3. Try that, and try to keep up.
When he made the pick he had no idea whether Petty would evolve into a #1. He still doesn't know. If Petty truly becomes a franchise QB who would give a fuck at that point? At worst he would have a solid #2 after Geno and Fitz are gone, or, just maybe someone even better than Petty. Let it play out. This is something that develops over time, at best. Nobody on earth knows that Hack isn't gonna work out for us. And it's starting to look like Petty was a good pick in the 4th rd for them. They actually might know what they're doing. What's the alternative? Geno and a good lineman in two years?
WTF? I'd like to give you the benefit of doubt on this one, but you haven't made a case for why this is so.
1. We don't need 4 QB's, and I would bet we don't keep 4. 2. If Geno is better than Hack, why do we need him? 3. With that 2nd round pick, why didn't we get something of need? Why pick Hack, if he can't even get practice snaps against what we have as competition? 4. Couldn't we use an O-Lineman more than a QB who may or may not work out in 3 years? 5. Young stud WR, RB, any place of need?
He will have to play and play soon just to get the media off the Jets back. You know the stories why did the Jets waste a 2nd on a QB when they had Petty grooming for the year. Why are they hiding Hackenberg and what's wrong with him. Macc will be asked about this all year long especially if we have a injury on OL or RB. Especially when we could have had Connor Cook (101yards) or Dax Prescott (199 yards) 2 rounds later and much better value.
Dude, QB is THE most important position on a football team. Period. If you don't know and understand that, you understand nothing about the game.
The Jets are not the 74 Steelers. They have needs that had to be addressed and they took a guy who has major issues at a position that was not an immediate need. This team should not be making luxury pick we are not at that stage yet. We all knew Fitzpatrick was coming back, Geno was under contract for a year, Petty was the Hackenberg of 2015 but without the messed up psyche, mechanics and accuracy. Petty just needed to learn the pro game. Hackenberg is a hot mess basket case.
No, it isn't a wasted pick regardless of what happens. There are never any guarantees with any draft pick. There certainly were no guarantees that Petty, as a 4th round pick, would ever develop into our starter. A number of posters here don't even expect him to even be a reliable backup. So taking a very good or great prospect at a position of need that is also the most important position on the team is not a waste. Hack could easily fix his mechanics, develop and become our starter for the next 10-15 years. Petty could also win the starting job, and Hack be great insurance and a great backup for a few years, then the Jets could trade him for a number 2, or 1 or multiple picks. I'd hardly call that wasted. It doesn't matter whether he seems to be a wasted pick now or not. What's important is the long term. They knew he'd be a project. Since you like and trust Mac, why not give him the benefit of the doubt, and wait and see what happens with Hack?
Why give a flying fuck about the media? And I'm pretty sure they can see what's happening in front of him anyway. He doesn't have to play at all this year. You seem to be putting way too much significance on appearances and very little on performance. Who you think might have been better draft choices is totally irrelevant today, Hackenberg is the guy who's here and what he becomes is yet to be seen. I can wait.
