It would be extremely rare to carry four QBs into the season. Who will be the odd man out? Injuries could take any of them out so let's use a full season as the qualifier here if we talk injury. Wednesday's activities put Fitzpatrick on pretty firm ground and Hackenberg must be considered pretty safe too because he hasn't had the opportunity to screw up yet. Smith's stock declined but Petty may be a dark horse candidate for elimination as well as the invisible man he's been since he arrived.
I cant see Geno getting cut and leaving such inexperience at the BU position. I see Petty as the odd man out.
Given that there's no real cap saving between any of them, you have to expect that Petty will be ejected. The infrequent 'praise' he had in off-season soundbites was restrained, to say the least.
Likely Petty unfortunately. A shame that a 4th round Qb couldn't develop enough in a year to make the final roster in his 2nd year. My hope is they keep him so that he and Hack can compete this training camp and next training camp. I doubt they could get away with stashing him on the Practice squad.
Im going with Bryce. If the Jets loved him they wouldnt have drafted Hack, and since Hack isn't going anywhere and the Jets probably want a vet backup, Petty is the guy.
The Jets will carry 4 this year. They are not operating on a model of what is usual. This is what works for this team right now, and is what it will be. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Smith or Petty may get cut before the end of camp and if either Hack or Petty looks even decent as a backup I am guessing it will be Smith just so there isn't another year of drama especially when we start losing.
I can see bryce coming down with an injury and getting put on i.r. sometime late in preseason. That brings him and hack back for 2017 which could be an open audition for qb1.
Well even if something shady like that did go down, he will be back. Our front office is planning for the future, which is where Petty fits in. Some people here seem to think the Jets live year to year the same way most of us live paycheck to paycheck. I think the NFL should allow every team to designate one player to the practice squad as a "protected" player so that other teams can't steal them away. Petty would be perfect for that this year. It would probably help QB development across the league and improve the game. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Agreed. Ftr, i live direct deposit to direct deposit. What an upgrade from wheni lived paycheck to paycheck
I'd guess Petty. I doubt the Jets have much faith in him. They drafted Hackenburg, went hard after Fitz, and made Geno the starter if Fitz didnt re-sign. He'll be gone I'm sure.
Geno and Fitzpatrick have no contract next season. Petty does. A rookie contract at that. They traded up to select him. This doesn't sound like the conditions under which you punt him. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
Probably not, but I doubt they are going to roll with 4 QB's. Its going to be Geno or Petty. This will be telling regarding how the staff feels about Geno.
You can stash Petty on the IR. He won't be able to practice if he's on the IR. You put him on the practice squad, he might get scooped up. What is the big deal about Petty anyway? If he doesn't narrow the gap with Geno Smith, the guy will never get it.
