Yep. And it really seems like they're giving the job to Hack next season. They offered a 3 year deal with starter money in the first year and backup money in the second year, then they offered a 3 year deal with an opt out clause after the first year (just reported) and they ultimately settled on a 1 year deal. A common theme in all 3 contract offers.

If he is getting paid 12-15 mil and we just chose not to sign him, then how can that 12-15 mil not be used in the future?

I laughed out loud when I read this, don't know why. Something about "Jets have to win the Super Bowl" got me.

I would have preferred not to have paid him. Let's put it this way... my shithead kid is still MY kid, so I'll support that shithead till the day I die (he stops being a shithead)

Safe, short term move by Woody and Mac to appease the billboard crowd. They know what they have with Fitz and weren't willing to risk it with Geno and the young guns or a veteran. I hope Fitz plays lights out, stays healthy, and leads us to the playoffs. No excuses!

Geno is going to get a fresh start somewhere else next season.

    Fitz won
That squarely falls into the "not likely to be earned" category so it would count against the 2017 cap if it happened. I think everyone would be ok with that.

After months of hard ball Macc caves to both Fitz and Lee within hours. The precedent is now set for others.

lol how did he cave? Caving would have been giving him 3-36 or even 2-24. It's a freaking one year deal at the same salary he was getting in their three-year offers.

QB "play" flea....PLAY. Enjoyed the PLAY, don't think it's taking the Jets anywhere

That was my first thought when I saw the news. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't here by the end of camp. Clearly no confidence in him so what's the point in keeping him around?

This contract annoys me for a couple of reasons.

    1) We could be held up again next year.
    2) Don't get a final-final verdict on Geno
    3) Had a chance at a relatively equal younger guy in Foles (probably cheaper too)

This doesn't annoy me for a couple of reasons.

    1) One and done if he stinks
    2) Hack and Petty are now off active standby
    3) Not caving and giving that final deadline makes me feel good about our front office's seriousness

Last year Fitz was the feel good story because he was basically washed up..not this year and how long will it take for the fans to turn on him if we start out 1-5 or 2-4 as a lot of people expect?

And how exactly would anyone have hated Fitz LAST year anyway? Especially if you liked his play. He did nothing to 'hate' before this stupid drama where he only missed one day of real camp.

I fail to see how Fitz won, he's getting paid below most of the starting QBs, and the guy he's above is RG3.

0 to Burned at the stake in a New York Minute. After this standoff to basically get what was on the table this entire time sets him up to public enemy number one the second it goes sour.

Brian Hoyer is making 2 mil this year and Fitz is making 12

    Fitz won

Yeah looked very similar to our "playoff" game in Buffalo

Fitz is better than Hoyer but barely....certainly not 2 vs 12 mill LOL
