Until that stigma is gone, it will only get worse. Unfortunately, we as a human race are too stubborn to come together and hash out our differences in a mature manner. It annoys me too that people use it as an attack tool. Trump uses it as an attack tool better than anyone else. Normally, something extremely bad has to happen in order for people to wake up. We are on a 1 way course to that right now.
Agreed, he was not put in a ideal situation at all. I guess the question is, can things like this be learned. He's made some incredibly stupid plays in the heat of the moment. Those are the kind of things he needs to have drilled into his head and conditioned to never think that way. Definitely would have helped him to sit a couple years or so. Rex and co. really did him no favors. I hope the man improved like everyone thinks he did.
I'm white, male, right leaning, have a decent job, and basically fit the physical description to a T of what politics would have you believe constitutes a racist. It is ironic, because in a sense there is a racism to that very sentiment. I don't have a racist bone in my body. I'm tired of being told I'm a racist because of what I am, while ignoring what I believe. There are Republicans that are racist. OK, are there not also Democrats that are racist? Robert Byrd? Scumbags are scumbags, regardless of their appearance. You and I would have no problem enjoying a Jets game together. Unfortunately, it serves politicians better for the racial divide to exist, because hate sells. Sent from my KIW-L24 using Tapatalk
This. Particularly true when, like a few pages back on this thread, people throw "Racism" out as a catch-all term. There is a word for discrimination against a group for reasons that are not tied to race--- "Discrimination". One is just as bad as the other, but they are different words and they do have different definitions. It really shouldn't be that hard to select the right one.
Its not always about race. Many times ive found my white friends to be more helpful than my black ones, so obviously theres no correlation between race and that sorta thing all the time. Racism exist but its mostly about people plain and simple. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
The problem is the media and politicians; they create perception and to some perception is reality. You should not feel you fit the description of a racist, you know yourself better then anyone else here on this Earth.
I talk sports to get away from the moron Trump, scumbag Hillary and all racist everything bickering. Why is this happening in this thread?
Good question - basically the people who don't want Geno Smith apparently hate him because he's black, not because he's incompetent
Sorry to break up the politics/racial discussion, but here we are on Day 1 of camp and I am now officially in the Fuck Off Fitz camp. He has no leverage. He has no market. He has no upside or potential to build on. He has no playoff history. He has no resume that warrants more than the team is offering. Now, He is hurting the team and creating a divisive atmosphere by letting this thing drag out into camp. We need stability and he just turned our preseason into a circus. His absence shows me that he isn't committed to leading this team and that he just sees this as business. Once he gets paid, I don't see him laying it on the line for the win - I see him making more business decisions. He hasn't been focused on trying to improve or building on last season's gains. He's in it for himself. Thanks for the memories Fitz, but your short-term mediocrity isn't worth the headache. I have faith in Geno. He was thrown to the wolves his first two seasons and didn't start to "get it" IMO until he was benched and came back to play pretty well his final four games of 2014. He's got the bulk of the reps for two offseasons and got to watch almost all of last season. The one game he played in, he played pretty well against a strong Oakland D on the road. The reports out of last year's TC and this summer's mini-camp were good. He's got warts just like Fitz but he comes cheap, is more athletic, is hungry for a new contract, is only 25, and most importantly, he's in camp. If he is crap, well then he's gone at the end of the year and we move on to Petty/Hack/another high draft pick/journeyman as our QB. Most importantly, we retain flexibility in not being tied to Fitz for additional years. It's the more risky short-term move, but I'm fine with the team going this direction.
Hmmmm I distinctly recall the prevailing sentiment that people should be given 2nd chance because they change. Maybe it's only about sport characters.
His upside is mentoring Hackenberg, his leverage is not playing for the Jets and forcing them to start Geno Smith (lol). He's basically asking for starter money for 3 years guaranteed. What was the best offer, 12 / 8 / 6? Fitz will take 12 on a one year deal, but the Jets won't do it. Give the guy 3/30 and call it a day.
The questions remains, what do we need to see from Geno to make the Jets believe he can be the starter? Like it or not Petty does not look ready Hack is rook with huge question marks. If Fitz does not sign soon or and we do not bring in a vet soon it will be Geno as the starter. What is concerning is the folks that see Geno the most coaches and players seem to want Fitz back. That does not bode well for the Jets or Geno. Here is to hoping he steps up because thus far in his career (no matter what the Geno lovers say) he has not proven to be anything more than a back-up with questionable leadership skills.
Yes, you are correct. 40 years later, do you think Trump changed? I do not think so, as he is still judging people my race or religion. A bias source, factually incorrect: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...cead16-c46e-11e5-9693-933a4d31bcc8_story.html http://fortune.com/2016/06/07/donald-trump-racism-quotes/ I'm done now though. I've done enough to derail this thread.
Offer needs to be pulled if he hasn't signed by Sunday. Enough of this, he has no market or leverage. Let him go play for the Alouettes for $80k per year.
