Taking a pretty big leap thinking he would have accepted 11M per, 2 years ago.
Given the way this went down, I highly doubt he would have been able to be signed for that.

It would obviously depend on the # of guaranteed $$ and years, but I think it would've been possible.

I don't. I think you're being too optimistic. I believe that Mo wanted to stay here, but even more, he wanted a lot of guaranteed money and big $s per season. I think it's very likely that he wanted money close to, if not equal to, or exceeding what Watt got. I think the only reason a deal got done is that Mo knew that Mac had all the leverage, and the Jets could just tag him again next season. Mo got part of what he wanted (the $s per year) and the first two years fully guaranteed, and a nice injury guarantee, but he didn't get the $60-$70 million guaranteed that he supposedly wanted. He didn't get the length of contract (6 years) he supposedly wanted, either. Even 2 years ago, I don't think Mo would have signed for less than $14-$15 million per season.

2 years ago Mo didn't want to sign anything because he was waiting to see what JJ was gonna get.

He got 38M guaranteed, so translate that to the market back then and what do you have? Mo signed this deal because he wanted security and upfront money. There could've been a way to get the deal done. It's no coincidence he first made a comment about not having a deal when Cameron Jordan from the Saints got his. Cam had 33 with 55M total over 5 yrs. Don't you think the Jets could've added maybe 10M to that and still give him the same amount guaranteed? Still save cap space at the end, but maybe its possible the agent saw the cap increase going forward and denied getting his client an extension.

A lot of ways to think about it. That was a shocking deal Mo signed off on, makes you think more of what could've been a few seasons ago.

What about the off-season Idzik didn't spend? Watt already signed his deal around then I believe no? All speculation, but just makes you think what Mo REALLY wanted prior.

I agree that there are a lot of ways to think about it. Either of us could be right or neither of us could be right. We'll probably never know unless Idzik or Mo writes a tell-all book at some point.

Nope, don't think JJ did. Don't forget Sue had new contract coming up too.
We won't ever known but regardless Mac made a good deal.

I would take Tomzak over Geno Smith.

I don't see anyone besides Sheldon and Pryor in line for a contract extension anytime soon.. maybe (hopefully) Geno earns one as well..and even that wouldn't be FRANCHISE QB money. Mac should be back into making big splashes via free agency real soon.

I have faith in this regime... we're getting there.

Yeah, they claimed on the air it traveled 53 MPH, but as an amatuer non-pitcher with a decent throwing arm, I can tell you that even 53 mph isn't that easy to do. Michael Kay couldn't do it. Mo shot-putted that pitch. At least he reached the catcher on the fly, and threw a strike. Otherwise, yuck.

Two theories - one, he never played baseball in his life which seems shocking to us older guys, or two, some of these big men can't grip what to their hands is the tiny baseball very well. Mo didn't seem comfortable with the ball between his fingers.

Stick with football big guy, we still love you. Hey, you outperformed Gary Dell'abate and 50 Cent and now you can finally afford those padded home plate seats at Yankee Stadium.

    ??????
My 5' 5" 125 lb 17 year old daughter throws the ball 64-65 mph.
Granted she is going to play collegiate ball, but you got to think a guy Mo's size could at least throw in the 60's.

I think anyone who has played any ball in there life can throw in the 50's until the body just gets to old.

Give Mo a break. I'm sure he could have thrown harder had he wanted to.

If you get it over the plate you outperform 95% of others that have thrown out the first pitch.

He got a decent (not great) deal, he will make the 54m in 3 years unless he gets hurt and he got want he wanted most which was to stay home in NJ where he grew up.

Mo doesn't help the jets win games!? He is a top 5 defensive lineman and home grown. He's a great locker room guy as well. Resigning him sends a good message to the other players and gives the organization more respect for keeping there own.

What qb is available that we should be spending big money on? ..... Crickets. There aren't any. Till we draft a franchise qb then we don't have to spend big money on one. Do you want to give a ton of money to someone like Tanny did sanchize?

Mo could have gotten more money on the open market. We actually paid less for him and saved money on this years cap.
