im fine with a 5 win season over an 8 win season where we learn nothing about any of our QBs and overpay a glorified backup qb who isnt a long term solution. I have 0 faith in geno, but letting him but the final nail in his coffin at least removes the distraction. you just admit you have no idea what you have i petty. it would be great to see what he has. especially with antoher high draft pick qb on the team who will eventually need a shot. hack doesnt have to be ready. give him a start or even a few halfs of football at the end of the year to get some reps in live competition
The bolded makes no sense to me. I'll never understand the mentality of losing in order to move up a couple slots on draft day. it's a losing mentality. starting Geno doesn't remove any distraction. that couldn't be farther from the truth. He's already done here, and if/when the season starts tanking, this town would be pointing fingers at Mac for the terrible QB situation. it would be a mess. Hack needs a red shirt year after what he went thru at Penn St. He shouldn't see the field this year. He's got a lot of mechanics to fix, habits to change, hits to shake off, all in addition to adjusting to a new offense and the NFL in general. Petty, who knows? but just because we don't see a guy on Sundays, doesn't mean the coaches don't get to see them all week. i wouldn't bank on him. If he was outplaying Fitz in practice though, then i'd give him a shot. It's important this team learn how to be competitive, before it can learn how to get over the hump. Starting Fitz isn't crazy exciting, but it brings consistency and competitiveness to this team until that torch can be (hopefully) passed to one of the other guys when ready. Starting Geno would set this team back imo.
I disagree with this in one scenario and one scenario only. If there is a franchise QB going to be at the very top of the draft BASED ON MERIT then I lose every possible game I can to get that guy. Like Marcus Mariota. NOT like a Goff or a Wentz or any QB from 2013. I was the biggest advocate of losing out to get Marcus because I felt he had such a high ceiling and the crap coming out this year and next would put the chances of a true franchise QB a few years out. I'm not losing games to position myself for any other position in any other year. Of course that fuckhead Idzik lucked into TWO franchise QBs NOT at the top of the draft in 2014 in Teddy and Carr, and, well, he shit the bed. But yeah, I'd rather try to enjoy 8-8 instead of sitting through a shitfest 4-12 any year UNLESS there is a Mariota sitting there and you can get to 2-14. I will say, that 4-12 feels SO much better now that I reflect back on it. Those two totally forgettable and meaningless wins are so much more satisfying than having Marcus Mariota as our QB for the next decade. _
nowhere in my post did i mention anything about draft picks or moving up. id rather a 5 win season because i believe it will be more conducive to our future success. i think there is alot of value in evaluating our 3 young QBs in live NFL games and seeing where they stand. i think there is value in not vastly overpaying a glorified backup. thats going to happen no matter what mac does. im not saying he should start 16 games. but him getting 1-2 game cumulative at the end of the year would certainly be beneficial. no pressure real game reps. simialar to the benefit of getting him reps in preseason. there is no substitute for live game reps there is no "banking" on anyone. this isnt a great team. we dont know on petty like you said... this is where we find out what he can do in real games. i dont think fitz brings competitiveness. i think he brings mediocrity or worse. geno sucks, anyone with a brain agrees. give him a shot day 1, if he gets beat out or sucks you yank him and maybe even release him. what would REALLY set us back is starting fitz 16 games where we go 7-9 or 8-8 and get 0 live game reps for our young guys
It's now impossible to convince me that the Jets don't have the NFL's #1 offensive trio surrounding our QB position in Marshall, Decker & Forte. As I stated with my original post; not since 1998 with Keyshawn, Chrebet & Martin have we featured a trio as dynamic & explosive as this one.

I think the top trios(not taking QB into consideration) are: Pittsburg: Brown, Bell, Wheaton (brown and bell are so good wheaton doesnt matter much) Cardinals: johnson, fitzgerald, Brown Bucs: Evans, Jackson, Martin Texans: Hopkins, fuller, miller Jets: marsh, decker, forte Broncos; thomas, Sanders, anderson you can probably put the jets anywhere from 2 though 6 though.
I looked at all the rosters. As far as true WR/WR/RB trios these are the best Marshall, Decker, Forte Cooper, Crabtree, Murray Fitzgerald, Floyd, Johnson Brown, Bryant, Bell If a TE was allowed to sub for one of the wide receivers than you could make a case for CAR, NE, CIN.
Jackson is washed up, takes them off my list. Fuller hasn't proven anything, he had one good game against a terrible secondary, also I believe Miller is overrated. DEN has a strong case, the argument against is that Anderson is solid back but nothing special, also somewhat overrated imo.
While I like this group quite a bit, I'm very concerned about Forte. He is playing very well right now, but how will he look come week 8 or week 16? He is old for a RB and has mileage. Not saying Decker and Marshall don't have mileage, but RBs his age are notorious for breaking down. I desperately want him to be the exception, but if he does fall apart that will create a real problem: He will have been good enough during the early part of the season to probably give us a fighting chance at a playoff spot, but just when we need him the most he may not be able to help put us over the top and actually into the playoffs. So we could end up with the worst of both worlds again.... no playoffs and crappy draft position. I am hoping Bilal Powell can start looking like a major contributor and offload some work from Forte, but so far I don't see him adding much.
A little off topic but my buddy and I were debating over the Giants VS Jets receivers , he's claiming his top 3 are better then Marshall, Decker, Enunwa. We obviously disagree there.
It’s one of the best in the league no doubt. Marshall and Decker are impossible for opposing D’s to deal with, especially with the emergence now of Enunwa. And Forte’s pass catching ability more than anything else makes things all the more tougher. I like Fitz but it’s a shame that we don’t have a young franchise caliber QB ready to play. This is a great environment for a QB to be successful. I really hope Petty or Hack are the answer and get a chance to play with these guys.

none of these are better than ours at all 3 spots. I don't even think TE's were apart of the equation.
