Yes indeed. I'm afraid that he is seeing himself as a longer term solution, unwilling to accept a lucrative one year as an insurance policy more so than anything. The front office fully expects a change of the guards sooner than later, and they have not given up on Geno yet as many here seem to think. 12M is one hell of a lucrative insurance policy, way too much to probably swallow beyond year one.

The $12M is not the issue.

It's how the Jets want to spread the cap hit out over 3 years that is the issue.

I think both sides agree $12M is the number for 2016.

It's how to spread the cap hit that is causing the consternation.

Geno should drop a deuce in it.

That would be awesome. Because about a dozen guys would take shots at his jaw.

i think its more the guarantees. 15mil guaranteed makes him very vulnerable after 1 year if he has a bad year and severely underpaid if he has a good one. he has a good point, just not the leverage.

It's the point and the lack of leverage that has created the conundrum.

As soon as those issues get solved he'll sign.

It's not as crazy as some folks are making it out to be. Certainly not crazy enough to be bitching every day about him trying to make the Jets cave or him being an ingrate. Or Namath "destroying" him.

    Sheesh.

Thanks, but how is Fitz harmed by the way it's spread if the value to Fitz stays constant? Is it the guaranteed portion of it?

If they try to cut him a 3 year deal with really crappy base salaries years 2 and 3 and he has a good year he's screwed.

I don't see the urgency. Bowles doesn't see the urgency. You do. What are the rest of us missing?

According to Pro Football Focus Fitzpatrick was the 27th ranked QB in the leauge last year........He also choked in a win and get in game...I honestly don't care about Fitz at this point,I lost a lot of respect for him and could care less if he comes back at this point.Go with Hackenberg or Geno and see what happens ....Fitz isn't gonna win us a Superbowl ,he can't even beat the Bills to get us in the playoffs.Fuck Fitzpatrick

The question is when he is coming back? And he did choked when there were big games on the line.

I think you mean couldn't care less. Also, I agree. I'm excited to see Geno with some actual WR's where the #1 isn't Jeremy Kerley.

if you are going to move on from him, you need to bring in another veteran to backup geno.
that guy would need time to learn gailey's offensive system.
as the panthers already demonstrated, if the player is not going to sign a reasonable offer, then why waste time
and effort to haggle with him? you would be much better off spending that time and money on keeping mo wilkerson.

exactly ! you offered him double or triple what he got last year and he won't sign? if the hoodie was running the jets, his replacement would already be learning the playbook after signing for the veteran minimum.

But the Jets organization has no desire "to move on from him" and bring in some tomato can-has been and does not want Smith as the starter regardless of who backs him up. Where do you get the idea he's not going to sign a reasonable offer? No time is being wasted and signing Fitzpatrick has little or nothing to do with Wilkerson. I certainly believe MacCagnan is capable of working on more than one deal at a time.

It would be intercepted. Geno doesn't shit in lockers, he shits the bed.

Dudes here want to "move on".

Who are the Jets to reject them?
