He will most likely say what he's been saying for some time now: stop Muslims from entering before we can vet them, more surveillance of mosques here in the States because those places breed these characters. The other side will say their usual "bridges instead of walls", "nothing to do with religion", and so on...
How would that have helped here? The guy was born in the US. Stopping people from entering the country based on their religion is about as anti-American as it gets.
At one point that was true. Until people started using religion as a way to turn their clocks back to year 1200. There's a big difference between being religious and being an extremist. But you have to get rid of the problem at the root. All it takes is one extremist for me to not want an entire family of peaceful people in this country.

Did you miss the second part of my post? Mosques breed these "radicals." This guy was investigated by the FBI before but apparently they decided that he wasn't a threat. As for "anti-American", you can also say that this country was built on immigration and you'll be right. But does that mean we have to let thousands of Muslim "refugees" because not allowing them to come here would also be "anti-American" and against everything this country has stood for, right? The bottom line is the government has to do whatever is necessary to protect their citizens. By not letting people from certain countries in until there's a system in place to properly vet them would eliminate part of the problem. Surveillance of places known to breed this kind of thinking would help eliminate another part of the problem. It's too early to come to conclusions here but I am fairly certain that this guy had contacts with some "radical" elements either at some mosque or online.
