Thank god Geno threw him that hospital pass his first training camp to keep our streak of unproductive second round picks going.
As much as I like the rebuild we made on our LB's this offseason and draft, I still think the better pick in the long run would have been Treadwell or Doctson. WR is a major need for a team that always has 4 wr's out there and we are one of them. Smith not coming into the season until week 6 just means he will not play much at all this season if TB stays to what he did last year with milliner and other injured players. Disappointing for sure, this team needs a deep threat and we have zero.
CMAN is right. The days of 2nd round picks "developing" are over. 2nd round picks are expected to produce almost immediately. Remember they are on 4 year deals. He's essentially going to miss ½ his contract and has given us ZERO. For a team that has two older WR, this team needed Smith to emerge. Without any real significant playing experience his first two years (and very little training camp) this is not going to end well.
Westhoff's favorite qualm about Millner, get on the field, always injured, starting to pertain to Smith too
I'm honestly surprised it takes that long from an ACL. In soccer you are expected to be back in 6-7 month on the field and it's just as much stress on the knees as football. Looks like the kid is a slow healer... I hope he's at least using these time to strengthen up and learn the playbook by heart. PS His injury is a big reason why we tendered Thompkins to stay around. He had a crucial crucial drop against the Bills but he was solid for us last year so I'm not holding my breath waiting anxioulsy for Smith to come back.
I am now of the thinking that we can't expect that this guy to be the future at our wide receiver position. If he turns it around, thats great. But I think the odds he will be a successful starter for us considering he can't stay on the field is about on par with Charone Peake being our future starting wideout.
We've still got both Marshall and Decker for at least 2 years, that gives us time to fix it. Next year I think we need a complete revamp of our O-line.
confused jonny? Not real complicated. If you can't stay healthy, you can't play football. Might as well think about a 2nd career choice. That goes for the both of them although Milliner is first up.
Poor kid. The odds of him having any impact this year are slim. Lets hope for good things but I predict a BUST.
He's halfway thru his contract jonnyd. Zero ROI there.. He hasn't shown much of anything and can't stay on the field. He's simply taking up roster space at this point.
Too soon to write this kid off at this point. He'll only be half way through his contract after this season and thats without the 5th year option taken into consideration. Dude was an absolute burner and deep field threat in college..I'd rather give him time to get healthy and come to his own on this team than cut him and watch him become a star elsewhere.
