The linebacker position is going to be extremely interesting to watch. I'm not sure how it's all going to shake out. We could realistically only keep Mauldin/Jenkins and one of the camp bodies ala Bishop on the edge to keep more roving linebackers. I expect the ILB's to be Harris/Henderson/Lee/Carter and Reilly as the special teams ace. That leaves a lot less room to keep 4 outside backers especially considering the defensive line depth. Tough schedule, quarterback controversy and all that garbage can make one worry. But god damn this attacking defense is going to be fun to watch.
There's no room at all. Forte/Powell/Robinson are locks and we unfortunately might keep that friggain bum Bohannon. Even if we don't, runningbacks can be acquired during the season very easily and fill a hole without much issue. See Jonas Gray and his 200 yards/4TD's against the Colts for New England in 2014. Anymore than those 3 guys (and hopefully we cut shitty ass Bohannon) is a waste of a roster spot.
You could be right, especially since they could use Lee at OLB in certain situations, and possible use Mike Catapano at OLB on other situations. Reilly would also be depth and listed at OLB. It will would be a little surprising to me, however, for them to keep only 3 "pure" OLBs, though I don't know who else they might possibly keep.
G and CB I'll agree on, but not WR. They have some good young WR prospects with size and speed in Charone Peake, Robbie Anderson, Quenton Bundrage, and Jalin Marshall. If the Jets CS likes some of them and think they have real potential, I'd rather keep them and give them the reps and opportunity to develop.
It's not realistic that all 4 of those guys are on the active roster come week 1. Devin Smith isn't healthy yet either.
Show me where I said that I hope that all four would be on the roster. What's that? You can't? Of course you can't, because I said "If the Jets CS likes some of them and think they have real potential, I'd rather keep them and give them the reps and opportunity to develop." You really need to work on your reading comprehension. This is a regular thing with you. I don't know why I even bothered to take you off of ignore and respond to you. I should have known that you'd either misread my post or try to twist my words.
So put me back into ignore then I do not care in this case, name the starting 4 wide receivers. No sense in being a complainer here otherwise you'll end up ignoring everyone
There will be space here as Devin Smith is likely to start the season on PUP as pointed out earlier in the thread - that means that behind the obvious 2 and maybe Enunwa there are 3 spots available. Thompkins had a couple of really bad drops last year and is not safe from a visit from "The Turk" Peake flattered to deceive in college but could make a practice squad or better but will have to show up healthy. Was supposed to get more reps but did not for some reason or other J Marshall got a $12,500 signing bonus - high end for a UDFA - so they obviously have hopes for him in the return game Anderson and Bundrage were both sought after UDFAs and have shots at the roster or PS if they don't make the final 53 - would be some decent depth. But I still prefer them to the competition we had 3-6 years ago when we really had bupkus in the starting line up let alone depth to have us discuss the 4th-6th position on the depth chart
Read on ESPN that thirteen of the Jets' 14 UDFA additions received signing bonuses, but only three exceeded $10,000 in guaranteed money -- wide receiver/kick returner Jalin Marshall ($12,500), safety Doug Middleton($15,000) and defensive end Lawrence Thomas ($15,000). Marshall is a player to watch, especially with the Jets' issues in the return game. Also looks like Middleton and Thomas have a chance to be considered as candidates to make the squad given the money was most likely used to lure them away form other offers
A couple of comments I found on the web after the first public sessions as to who was running with which unit and who the coaches were talking up Darron Lee running with the first team on Field 1 while most rookies and UDFAs on Field 2. Amaro was getting plenty of reps with the first team – coaches going to really put him under the microscope and give him every chance Brant Boyer promises to run fast paced special teams – current “energiser bunnies” are – Erin Henderson, Trevor Reilly and Rontez Miles. A key attribute for two of these three to make the roster will be their play on teams Return duties split between Romar Morris/ Dominuque Williams / Titus Davis and Jeremy Ross - Jalin Marshall and Robby Anderson also in the mix - in short whoever wants a vacant job - step up now 3 other rookies got reps with the 1’s – Jordan Jenkins, Charone Peake and Lawerence Thomas – but remember here that Decker / Marshall and Mo were not present – still a good sign for how they are progressing/hought of by FO/CS at this point Enunwa showed well and in particular displayed better hands – was in the” slot” Calvin Pryor taking more of a vocal leadership role Buster Skrine & Marcus Williams were getting a lot of reps on the outside with Dee Milliner & Dexter McDougle also in the mix “Mauldin, one, is a guy we expect a lot out of,” (Kacy) Rodgers (NY's DC) said. “Through these first couple of days of OTAs and watching him training. . . he seems a lot quicker.” “Dee (Milliner) is a guy that we really, really expect a lot out of,” Rodgers said. “And so far, so good. The last couple of days, it’s been funny, his name has really been coming up. He’s made a lot of great plays out there in practice.” Conor Hughes - At the end of the day, I think you’ll see Jeremy Ross and Charone Peake make the team with Jalin Marshall landing on practice squad.
A couple of moves following OTAs at the back end of the roster Shelby Harris was signed - a 6-4, 288-pounder seventh pick by the Raiders in the 2014 draft out of Illinois State. He became an exclusive rights free agent this offseason and the team placed a tender on him to retain him. He was then released along with two others when the team signed five undrafted players from rookie minicamp tryouts. Never made the regular season roster out of camp. Each time he was part of the final roster cuts and was placed on the practice squad. During each season he bounced back and forth between the practice squad and the active roster. Jets waived Lawrence Okoye to make space - he has size and power but was a project with 49ers for three years before signing a future reserve type deal with Jets last December. Mike Liedtke was signed - a 6'3" 304lb former 2015 undrafted free agent was a four year starter with the Illinois State Redbirds and spent time on the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs practice squad last season. Jets Waived Luke Marquardt to make space - he had the size and speed but had not played since 2011 and was a "look see" when added in late April
I don't understand your post. First you suggest that they could "realistically" only keep 2-3 OLBs, and you call Bishop a camp body, and he isn't just a camp body. Then you list Reilly with the ILBs, and he isn't, he's an OLB. Your math doesn't add up. Regardless of how you list Reilly, or what you think of Bishop, it is NOT "realistic" that the Jets would only keep 2-3 OLBs. That makes no sense whatsoever. A team has to have depth at every position.
First, thanks for the roster info. A 304 pound LB? Seriously? If that's not a mistake, it sounds like a waste of time. What position does Shelby Harris play? There's no mention of his position.
We've set this team up to play a pure 4-2-5 formation, and have the front four to sustain it because they'll be able to stop the run by themselves coupled with Harris/Henderson and have a more rover type of player in Lee on the field. Call em what you want, and position them where ever you want but we're going to see a lot of 3 ILB sets next year. What does that mean for our outside linebackers? Less of them on the field. I trust Reilly a lot more as David Harris' backup than trying to play like Orlando Pace. Either way if Reilly sees significant minutes it'll be because of several injuries. Either way, stop trying to teeny tiny falsities in other people's posts. It's annoying. I'd be surprised if OLB is the position we load up on the roster on this defense and I'd bet the position sees less minutes than any other individual position (competing with NT McLendon whom will be a first and second down player only).
The LB following the 304 was caps and has changed to lb as referred to his weight not position (my bad) - he is an OL Shelby Harris is a DE
McLendon will offer more versatility than snacks per the DC as the Jets believe he will be lining up at 1- or 3-technique or even in the nickel is his athleticism. He's a quick, light-on-his-feet 320 pounds, which has helped not only stop the run but also, despite two-gapping for much of his time in Pittsburgh, push the pocket to the tune of five career sacks. http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...lay-Ball/c3aae84a-ffdc-4dfe-b549-a3f85ee047dd I still see the Jets carrying 8 LBs at this stage Jenkins / Mauldin / Bishop & Trevor Reilly (Teams play keeping him in the frame) with Harris / Henderson / Lee & Carter (better show more than he did last year when he lost the starting job too easily after a big pay day). Deion Barnes who spent last year on the practice squad has a chance to push at OLB and Taiwan Jones has a chance at ILB - both need to produce on special teams although Jones being more of a thumper could limit his hopes more.
