What it could very well come down to is this...what will help the team more in the long run, keeping Mo this season and winning maybe another game or two and then getting only a 3rd round compensatory pick for him in 2018; or, releasing him now, perhaps losing 1-2 more games this season (in what is likely a non-playoff season anyway), and then having an additional $15.7 million to use to sign a FA or FAs next season? As that poster sees it, we're losing Mo either way, either this season or next. The difference is that by losing him next season, in all likelihood, all we'll get in return is an extra win or two this season (8-8 or perhaps 9-7 instead of 7-9) and possibly a compensatory 3rd round pick in 2018. We also risk getting nothing for him if he suffers a major or career-ending injury this season or if we sign a more high profile FA or more FAs than we lose next year. Conversely, by getting rid of him now, we lose the distraction, and we gain additional cap space that we can use to sign a player or players in 2017 instead of getting a pick in the 2018 draft, and that player or players would be known quantities and definitely be able to help us at least a year earlier (and possibly more if that compensatory pick takes a year or two to develop) than the compensatory pick in 2018.
Mo gives you a chance to win the big game against the Pats for the division and the playoffs. Do not discount the effect Mo has on the field. We won 10 games last year have good chemistry on both sides of the ball you do not give up on a season before it starts. Unless Hack, Geno or Petty make huge step up Fitz is critical.
i call geno what ive always called him. the worst QB in football. id still rather start him then play fitz. i also dont see why petty and or hack cant/wont start. unless wants to take like 4 or 5 million i tell him to kick rocks. he isnt very good we likely miss the playoffs with him and he isnt a longterm solution. and i wasnt thrilled with our qb play then either. its no secret to jets fans that our qb situation has been laugable. fitz doesnt really solve then, certainly not long term.
I highly doubt the Jets are going to let Mo walk next offseason, barring another major injury or something else unforeseen. If he isn't signed long term which seems likely then the Jets will likely franchise him again next season and either really try to trade him or have him back another year under the franchise tag.
Yea, i am not giving up on the season on may 9th. I guess thats why i think his idea is not too smart
those are alredy diminished returns. its getting wasted either way. if this team does get to the playoffs, it would likely be a miracle sneak in on the last day with help from other teams. id MUCH rather waste a year on older players who wont even be here in a couple years then trying to load up to "win now" on a team with like a 9 or 10 win ceiling... a team where 1 injury to several different spots kills our season. id much rather see what the young guys have. ive written off geno but i give all 3 a real chance and see who can play and who cant and where everyone is at. no, petty probably isnt ready. but if you give him 4 or 5 starts and the end of the year maybe this time next year he is ready. you know what doesnt sound like a fun 2016? going 8-8 with a bunch of older players who wont be around very long... or 7-9 because of a tougher schedule and fitz not replicating a career year.
It's that loser mentality within the fanbase. 1 or 2 games makes a huge difference, getting into the playoffs next year is attainable with the players we have now. Sheldon might get suspended, Leonard Williams still has to take that next step. Mo is our proven leader on the front 7, one of the most versatile lineman in the league today. I hope we find a way to keep him long-term. I don't know why fans think he's a distraction. I'll take my chances by keeping Mo this season and attempting to win, winning cures all and imagine if the Jets took another step forward this season. Mo might chance his mind and may want to stick around.
After this year is the best time to do what you're talking about. Next year Marshall and Revis may not be back. Mo might not be here. Harris and Mangold could retire. Lots of overturn on the roster. Which would make all the sense in the world to make a switch at QB. I see your points , but this roster is already too "all in" to get cute at the QB position. A bad QB could derail our year by the end of September. Then what? Then the fans/media revolt. I can already see how it would go. Geno would "win" a competition over Petty and Hack. Struggle against top defenses and then the team is forced by all the outside noise to put in a not NFL ready QB in Petty or Hackenberg halfway through the year. Now I dont think either of them are going to turn into anything good , but I know that neither of em should be playing next year. Especially since most of our fans are dumb, they're going to be expecting a savior.
The Jets don't want to pay that high priced Fa( Wilkerson) , as they have a cheaper version they drafted. ( Leonard Williams) So a year paying him 15.7 million is going to change their mind to give him a longterm contract.( jets had how much money to pay Wilkerson in 2015, and yet they didn't). The Jets aren't a playoff team this year- a fact. So many teams in the Afc got better than the Jets . The jets have too many questions to be serious playoff contenders this year. So I'm not throwing 15.7 million on a player they have no intention on keeping.( basically a one year rental on a team that isn't going anywhere. I would suggest you checkout other Afc team roster, and see how unlikely a playoff spot is there for the Jets. ( not playing 2015 schedule) You're the same Jet fan when the Jets don't make the playoffs - that will be saying it was stupid for the jets wasting 15.7 million on a one year rental. They should have got rid of him and had 15.7 million to GET THE FREEAGENT AT THE POSITION THEY WATED.
Totally disagree we can't atleast compete for the playoffs if we get decent QB play even with the tough schedule Our defense could be dominant barring injury and that alone will keep you alive Who should I be scared of in the AFC? We probably split vs our division but could be better. Steelers have a bad defense and are always injured, Bengals and Ravens will be solid but definitely not scared of them. The whole AFC South will be competitive but not really worried about any of them. Denver got worse, Chiefs are similar to us, and Raiders will be good but definitely not scary So regardless of who is at QB I'm certainly not writing the season off...we might go 7-9 but 10-6 isn't that crazy at all if a few things break for us.
Cool story bro. But today is may 9 and we have not been eliminated from the playoffs yet. And there is no need to tell me what kind of fan i am, much less yell it. Especially since you're wrong. But wanting to dump the season before mini camps tells me all i need to know about what kind of fan you are
How is this even a question or a hard decision. If it was really keep one or the other it would be keep wilk all day every day.
I feel like you don't understand what the word "fact" means. You sound like one of those little girls that misuses the word literally.
The Jets are at best an 8-8 team. That offense line they will put out there can't protect any Qb they put out .( one injury on that offense line and it could be a 4 win season. Now just think about what kind of Qb the Jets will be putting out there.( most important position in the NFL). I understand as a fan in April that we want to believe our team can compete with some of these Afc teams . Just look at the Afc West teams , the Jets can't compete with any of them. Who exactly are the Jet tackles who are going to be blocking these pass rushers from those teams.Denver ( Von Miller, D Ware, Shane Ray). kc( Justin Houston, Tambi Hali, and Dee Ford? Raiders ( K Mack, Bruce Irvin, Aldon Smith, and S Calhoun) The Jets defense couldn't even slow down that Raider offense, and there defense is going to be top notch this year.( where they made the biggest improvement. When we get into training camp you will come to my conclusion, and see this team should be thinking about 2017 and beyond. ( they aren't a playoff team in 2016).
We don't play Denver or Oakland this year. We match up against the AFC North. We play KC but there's a strong chance Justin Houston won't be in the starting line up yet. You want to come across like you know what you're talking about but the words you type prove otherwise.
