I don't think Mac is or will beg Fitz at all. The offer's out there, and Mac has let it be known that he won't increase the offer. It's a take it or leave it proposition. The Jets are simply giving Fitz some time to make a decision. They have a deadline in mind, where if Fitz hasn't signed by that date, they will pull the offer. That's already been stated. There's no rush to get Fitz in here now. As long as he's here for TC, that will be sufficient. He already knows the offense and has chemistry with the most of the offense. He could develop that with Forte in short order. For now, it will give Petty, Hack and Geno more reps in the mini-camps and better prepare them should Fitz not re-sign, and give the Jets a better idea of where their QBs are.

We need to give up this argument. There's no sense in debating something with someone who brings virtually no factual basis for his point to the table. Outside of "The Geno should be start more over Fitzpatrick cause he not get fair shot with worser receivers in young season." We all learned the hard way.

I disagree. I understand his wanting more money, and trying to get it. If he doesn't come to his senses before the start of TC, fine, we rescind the offer.

I think they don't want him back until training camp so they can if one of the 3 they have can start this season.

I really can't decipher what seems to be a 2nd grade education. But the bold looks to be you saying he 'fucks it up in the red zone.' Which is no way shape or form true. He threw 14 of his 15 interceptions outside of the red zone.

I hate to be mean. But Hooked on Phonics definitely has some value to it.

Fitz has a history of being mediocre. The market value for mediocre QBs is more than what we would give Fitz if he re-signs, so bringing back Fitz wouldn't be a bad economic decision. While mediocre teams don't make the playoffs, teams with top defenses (which we probably have) and mediocre QBs have made nice playoff runs. If I thought Geno (or Petty or Hack) could provide mediocre play, I would tell Fitz to take a hike. But odds are they can't, so I want Fitz back.

I never said Geno should start. I've always said let them battle it out in TC.

You're spot on, of course, but I fear you're wasting your time responding to that poster.

My bad I thought we was talking about the Bills game not the whole season.

And what would the point of that be? The chances of trading him will still be the same. Few teams are going to want to give up anything of value for a player wanting a huge contract and a ton of guaranteed money. In all likelihood, the Jets would just wind up paying him $18 million next season and be in the exact same place they are now. It would just delay their getting a comp pick a year. It would also be taking a chance that he could suffer a major injury this year, and then they'd have no chance of trading him and wouldn't get even a comp pick for him.

Maybe Mac thinks Fitz is less then a mediocre QB?

You could tag him in hopes to trade him before or during the draft and if they can't recind the tag. Has he sign his yet this year?

Come on, you're better than that. I'm not saying that I agree with him, but I understand his point. You'd be getting rid of a mediocre vet QB who is a stop gap and very good DE who isn't going to re-sign long term anyway. In all likelihood, that money would then be used next year to sign players to 3- or 4-year contracts. It's not the same thing at all.

The only reason I want Fitz back is to help mentor Hack (in both what to do and what NOT to do), and to play so Petty and Hack don't have to. The latter is the only critical issue imo. If I knew that Geno would stay healthy and play well enough to keep the starting job all season (or 98% of it), I'd be fine with not re-signing Fitz.

It's too early to say whether or not the front office and locker room are.....they were prepared to do just that before the Geno punch last year

Not every QB is on the same path in terms of improvement.....I don't think 1.5 years worth of playing right out of the gate in an overall bad situation is enough for a QB that was never considered pro ready anyway

I'm not here to make excuses for Geno....he didn't do nearly enough to get the fanbase excited for his future, but sometimes guys are immature and they connect with the right coach and then boom they finally get it. There are so many factors and variables that go into a young QB improving that it's hard to even have an argument like this.

I have no clue if that's the case here....he might just never get it and will be out of the league in a few years. If he has been doing the right things behind the scenes and working hard, I feel like one more chance under this coaching staff and on this team would be the correct move when you consider the alternative (journeyman with no real future that I believe is not good enough to take us anywhere important...also asking for a crazy contract)

I totally understand some fans completely writing him off but some of us feel differently......Petty is a big wildcard in all of this as well but I won't even go there right now

It's just an agree to disagree situation. I don't think he'll ever be a starting calibre quarterback in this league based on what his deficiencies are.

Yeah fair enough....I think that it all comes down to some people want full closure on Geno and some have already slammed the door

I trust Bowles and Mac though...they're not dumb and understand how great for our franchise it would be if we already had a possible young franchise QB on the roster (Petty or Geno).

They have seen Geno every day not only in practice, but in the film room, his work habits in general, etc...and will get to see him I guess as the starter for now. If they believe there was/is a decent chance to salvage Geno he will be given that opportunity for sure

    Should be interesting as usual
