Cause we wouldn't be paying Foles at the contract that he's earning now. He'll obviously have to restructure. You think Mac is going to trade for Foles when he makes more than he's offering Fitz? But why wouldn't we sign Fitz no matter what else we do at QB? I like Foles but I wouldn't trust him to start 16 games. Same way I cant trust Geno, Petty or Hackenberg to. The only QB out there that can be trusted to start over a full season is Fitz. And just a FYI , we arent trading for Foles so its a moot point anyways.
you absolutely cant trust fitz. in a career year he STILL was among the worst in the league in interceptions and had several others dropped. the biggest play of the season he threw a brutal pick. foles is as good if not better, and younger as to where he may be a long term solution
Foles is an option. A better option than Hoyer , Geno and Petty for sure. But he isnt a better option than Fitz. IDC how many interceptions he had dropped last year. He isnt the only QB that has that happen to him. If DB's could catch they would be WR's. I wanted Foles badly last offseason. And like I said before I still wouldn't mind him , but even if we did trade for him , I dont think that should close the door on Fitz negotiations because Foles would then be an above average backup and a legit option as starter for 2017. But there is no one more ready to come in here Week 1 and be the Jets QB than Fitz. And there we're 15 before the Buffalo game btw. IDK why every negative thing said about Fitz has to come back to Week 17. It was one game. Shit happens. Its the same as a Panthers fan saying Cam's season wasnt that good last year cause he had a horrible Superbowl. Doesnt make sense to me.
I usually agree with you, but you can't compare Fitz to Cam, Cam faced a brutal defense in the SB. Fitz could not get his team into the playoffs against a team that was not that good, he was known for throwing interceptions at the most inopportune moments. He lived up to that reputation against the Bills. He is not the answer and I will not shed a tear if he does not come back.
It's either Fitz or Foles. What, you're gonna have 5 QB's on the roster? Even if Geno did get released, that's still 4 QB's. Not to mention that neither Fitz or Foles are gonna want to come here if one is already here.
Im not comparing the two at all. Im comparing the absurdity of a fan basing most of what Fitz gave us last year on the last game on the season. Obviously Cam gave the Panthers fan more in terms of production but thats not a shock because he's a better QB..but I would bet some of their fans were bashing him after the SB , even with the Broncos D being as dominant as it was.
That last statement might be true in Fitz' case. Because if we acquired Foles he automatically becomes our best QB and a guy that could start and be atleast somewhat productive (i.e he wont be a dumpster fire like Geno would). To me the Hackenberg pick already says that Geno will be shown the door once Fitz comes back , which until he signs somewhere else Im assuming he is , and it also tells me that the regime is already down on Petty , so they wouldn't hesitate to trade him if a deal pops up. Im not basing this scenario on the fact that we will have 5 QB's or even 4. Fitz/Foles/Hackenberg
Why do you trust Fitz? Because he wins the big games? His playoffs record? His big arm? That he didn't beat one team with a winning record last season? That he lucky he wasn't picked off 30 times last season? Please tell me what is there to trust?
Its not so much that I trust Fitz , its that I dont trust anything else we can turn to. It makes no sense to be all in at mostly every other position on the field , but be in transition at QB with either Geno , Petty or a stopgap. 90 percent of our fan base called him our team MVP after Week 16 last year , and now anyone can come in and do what he did? Or even be better? Come on. An elite QB isnt walking through the door guys , hate to break it to you.
For all we know we may have that soon to be elite QB on the roster. I for one hopes Fitz retires like he claiming. His track record is he chokes when he needed most.
Even still thats a better track record than anyone other realistic option for us. Atleast he could put us in that position for him to possible choke in a meaningful game. And maybe Petty or Hackenberg in time will prove to be a better QB than Fitz has been over his career , but that wont be proven next season in all likelihood , and that should be all that matters to our fan base right now. Fans love to look forward to the future in the offseason , until we're all suffering through a regular season of futility.
To be fair to Geno we really don't know what he can do with this talent on offense. If Fitz played the 2 years Geno did with those awful teams he doesn't put up near the numbers he did this past season.
What are you talking about? It would be $1.75M this year, he already got his $6M roster bonus paid by the Rams. Next year would be $12.25M but could be cut with no dead money. That's $14M total for 2 years but only $1.75M for this year if he doesn't work out.
Which would be picked up by whatever team that trades for him. They would only owe him that 6mil if they released him , which they obviously arent going to do now. Thats what Im talking about.
I know. But the Rams are not going to trade him after shelling out that money. If they do there will be a stimulation that they get money back. If they were shopping Foles for 1.75mil and no guarantee for 2017, a team would've already jumped on that trade.
You are just guessing what will happen but I am pretty sure a team can not push bonus money already paid to another teams cap. You are also guessing a team would jump on the trade but have no idea what they are asking in return, no one is jumping on that if they are asking for a 4th rounder.
Well the fact that he already paid his bonus coupled with the notion that they are asking for too much is just further proof they wont be trading him. On March 12th they probably looked at Foles as their potential starter , now they have no use for them but are in a tough position by shopping him. TBH Id rather Mac have given up our 4th next year for him then the olineman that is likely to not play any type of meaningful role here.
