We certainly don't need to draft a punter or a kicker, they are always available. At worse bring some in as UFAs.
From his perspective, I can see him not coming back. His first bad game and there will be people clamoring for the kid. Who wants to play while constantly having to look over their shoulder?
I like what we've done at LB over the last two drafts. I think Mauldin can be a stud and Lee can be very good. I think Jenkins can be a good depth guy this year and turn into a starter eventually. I'd like to see the OL get addressed today along with a TE or WR.
Not sure but I am reading that the CS are very high on Qvale and that he could be the RT prospect to push Breno. I think it is also time for some of the other "depth players" mentioned here to step up or step out! Both Dozier and Harrison were hgh value prospects when drafted now they need deliver and fight with Winters @ RG. Also heard we were trying to trade up in the first for Tunsil but price was too heavy And as for commenting - In MAC we trust - we have to assume he has a better handle than us as the Hack pick was one they wanted for months but kept underwraps. Love the 2 LBs chose
Have you watched out special teams !?! if they are always available why don't we ever seem to get a decent punter ...
There are a couple of guards and a tackle left who would certainly be worth it in the 4th. Then get that punter in the 7th.
This after sitting on this draft result for a night: 1. Hackenberg [does] look like a reach, but then I would think that, he is very undervalued right now. If he could continue with his freshman program [with Bill O'Brien] then probably we're talking about 1st rounder QB at least, possibly more. The reason I really didn't like Hackeberg is his behavior off the field; as a leader, a QB should never throw anyone under the bus. If he's got a problem, he should address it [behind the door.] I just hope this is more of an immaturity thing, than a personality. Maybe Mac thinks this kid can grow into a leader. 2. I am loving the two LB picks. I've been crying out for [BLUE CHIP LINEBACKERS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!] for I don't even know how long. My prayers have been heard, and answered. 3. I still think Revis is cut after this season. His cap number is exorbitant. I just hope Jets don't shell out 10+M salary to another non-QB again. 4. I still maintain that Jets need to address OL next season; a blue chip LT to say the very least. I don't think Ryan Clady would be healthy all season [1] or have affordable cap number next season [2] RT has been the mess it was for a few seasons now. [Thank the LORD that a turnstile of WFH quality wasn't manning that position.] That's two tackles at early rounds to say the very least. And we have RG. 5. I don't think it's a smart thing to spend a decent draft pick on a ST ace; you can get one through either 6-7th round picks or UDFA. I still want Jets to draft a lineman in 4th [Possibly RG] and then round up the draft with a punter and a gunner in 7th.
If Hackett is still available in the 7th they should jump all over him, even Kaser should be picked up. What player are you getting in the 7th that you should take over almost a sure thing punter?
Completely agree with points 1 and 2. Agree with point 3 on the Hack, but I would go further and say I hope we never have to put him on the field. I hope Fitz comes back for a win now season (we're stacked for 2016, imo, on both sides of the ball), and Petty or Geno emerges long-term. On point 4, I think we need some help, particularly at guard, but hopefully they can piece together a good enough line for now. If Fitz returns, I'm very optimistic about this season, but not so much about the future unless Petty pans out.
I disagree with Revis getting cut unless Marcus Williams looks like the next Revis AND they have plans to sign back Mo. I know we have a lot more cap next year than this one.
Does Big Mac strike anyone else as unintentionally funny the way he looks and talks during press conferences? ...which is a nice amusing bonus for me, since he's also very good at what he does (regardless of what you think of the Hackenburg pick...nobody's perfect after all) Interesting what he says in this video too... http://www.newyorkjets.com/videos/v...ce-Day-2/6adb93b3-97c6-4416-8661-7c1e4fb67e16 To me, reading between the lines (incl. body language, facial expressions, etc), at about the 3:00 mark (2:50) when Bowles says "right now, until Fitz comes back, Geno is the starter", or something like that, Mac looks pained, turns his head, bug gulp and grimaces....perhaps Bowles wants Fitz back but Mac doesn't think it will happen given his contract demands? Check that out ..... am I reading too much into that? ...also at the 5:00 mark with Bowles unmistakable reaction to the possibility that Fitz doesn't return!
Ok we have two 7th round picks left, time to find OL gems. Round 7, Pick 14 (235) (From Rams through Texans and Broncos) -- Benenoch, Caleb OT 6'5" 305 UCLA or Haeg, Joe OT 6'6" 304 North Dakota St. Round 7, Pick 20 (241) -- Drango, Spencer OG 6'6" 315 Baylor
I agree that Revis will probably be cut following this season. Even though the Jets will have a lot of cap space, there will be prime FAs available that they'll want and can use. I think Clady is going to surprise you and a lot of people and not only stay healthy, but return to his All Pro level of play.
I completely disagree. If we sign a vet QB then Smith (I hate to say it) is still a better back up than either Petty or Hack. Let's not forget Smith was ahead of Fitz before coming into contact with the IKE right-hander. That leaves a shoot-out between Petty and Hack for the 3rd spot (and you don't use your 2nd rounder if you're going to cut him in training camp).
