You're way too hung up on scheme. Watch the guy's tape and if you don't think he's a huge upgrade at LB then I'm not sure what you're watching. You can't teach that kind of speed, instinct, and production. He's got all of them.
I guess, but at some point we have to think otherwise. I'm of the mentality that Mac so far has not given me a reason to doubt his ways, and until he does I will not be negative. I have complete trust in Mac given what I've seen to this point.
I've said pretty much the moment Lee was drafted that he was BPA. In a vacuum he is probably the 20th best player in the draft +/-, but this is not a vacuum. We've tried the smallish speedy 4-3 LB as a 3-4 ILB experiment before (see Vilma under Mangini), it didn't end well. Hopefully, Bowles is a better DC than Mangini.
For comparison, Reggie Ragland played 2 more games and obviously had more tackles (102) but had half as many TFL and two less sacks. So yes, production.
There's a valid debate to be had on either side. It's not the greatest pick in the world like the homers want to make it out to be, nor is the worst pick like the haters proclaim.
Again, you're not basing your opinion off his game tape. His production was more than adequate and he also had a much better D surrounding him than Smith did at ND ie two teammates who were top 10 draft picks.
Bullshit!!!! My side is the only side with a valid argument. The other side doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.
TFL could be a product of a team's blitz packages. Sorry if I'm keeping a LB clean, I expect more tackles. 66 is pretty low for a guy that's roaming free most of the time. In a 3-4 he's going to see more OLs in his face. This is why I think he is going to be a sub package guy.
I think most people would tell you we needed speed on this defense especially at the middle level of LB, so i don't know where exactly you're getting that from. ALL of of our LBs are slow for the most part, excluding Carter. What I've heard often about Lee during this whole draft process was that his 2014 tape looked better than his 2015 tape. Im excited hearing that pretty much as convert to LB (he played safety previously ) that his first crack at playing the position he dominated ( 81 tackles 16.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks). Does it really matter where we get our pass rush from, everyones simplistic and thinks oh we need an OLB to get sacks for us cause thats how everyone else gets sacks and it looks good on the stat sheet. But if Lee has all that ability to play 3 downs in this new NFL where teams are passing more and more, and he has the ability to blitz from the inside, he's quick to diagnose and read plays, if he has "plus man cover talent". Tell me how this is a bad pick when it feels a need, David Harris, Erin Henderson are getting up there in age and Bruce Carter is a journeyman and he arguably was the BPA. There wasn't a T available and idk anyone who thought any of those LBs were better than Lee. "Poor schematic fit" I'm sorry he actually fits perfectly in this defense, we actually have someone to cover RBs now. And Davis sucked yeah he was fast, but he never had the ability to cover even with his speed.
http://nypost.com/2016/04/29/ignoring-fans-and-2015-record-may-have-saved-jets-draft/ The headline says it all.
i was hoping against hope that tunsil was going to slip to us. but i am good with this pick, there will always be a place for guys who fly around and hit people in the nfl. i am also completely fucking tired of everyone always going to measurables. who would have thought 40 years ago that we would be whining that a guy 230 lbs who runs a 4.4 was too small. unless a guy is distinctly at a disadvantage its not a big deal.
The only reason I'm a bit hesitant on the pick is that he will play ILB for us and he's not proven at that position... I highly doubt he's an OLB at the pro level.. Way too small
You're assuming that Davis and Lee have the same coverage skills. There's a reason Lee went top 20 and Davis went in the 3rd round.
