I wonder if not signing Fitz before the draft is a smokescreen to throw Buffalo and a few others off the scent of the player we covet. Fitz, Petty, Decker and Mangold just went to a Rangers game. They seem pretty tight. We all know how Marshall feels too... It's also strange Fitz hasn't visited any other teams. I think we have a deal in place with Fitz but we are trying to make a move with Mo and we don't want to show our cards for the player we like. Many might peg us as a team that will take a QB with no Fitz but I think that's just a smokescreen.
This actually makes sense. If true it shoots Mac up the GM rankings. I don't believe this is the case but if it is.....
Only if you believe mac is taking a qb based on fitz's presence on the roster. If thats the case though, we will be in the market for a new gm in a gew years
The scenario is interesting and it would make sense. The Jets have had little cap space all through free agency, knowing that they'd likely create more via Mo and D'Brick. It wouldn't be out of bounds for them to have gone to Fitzpatrick and his agent with an under the table offer that was more than what we've seen so far with the understanding that it was going to be done after the draft.
Why meet with Hoyer then? They tried this with RG3 but no deal was struck. If nothing happens with Hoyer then I might believe it.
Interesting. But this theory implies the Mo deal goes thru only if a certain player the Jets coveat is on the board, otherwise there is no deal and we are back to square one.
I think the last 15 years have been a smokescreen and we're really a winning franchise that's been lulling the competition into making some mistakes... Almost time to pounce !!
I have a feeling mo is going to be delt for a 2nd and a 4th. This gives the Jets 4 top 100 picks and cap space to sign Fitz after the draft. But this is all a guessing game right now. The way it should be. I applaud Mac for running a tight lipped ship.
I don't know about smokescreen but it sure seems like this QB thing is going to work itself out on draft day one way or another. Hoyer is just an insurance policy in case all hell breaks loose. things that could happen: 1) Jets trade up to draft a QB. Problem solved (hopefully). 2) Another team drafts a QB and trades QB to Jets (thinking niners & Kaep). 3) Jets trade up to draft another position using Wilk which frees cap space, we sign Fitz. 4) QB Jets are high on falls to 20. Problem solved (hopefully). It's possible that the Jets are OK with the cheaper option of Hoyer in the event of drafting a QB.
What you are describing would most likely be considered collusion. I doubt Mac would go the illegal route for operations.
Fitz or no Fitz, we should be looking at QB if the talent justifies the draft slot. Fitz is a 2 year stopgap QB at best.
Collusion is when multiple parties conspire to deprive other parties of their ability to fully engage in an activity or to fix the price of that activity. Removing one player, whom no other team has a right too, from the market by arranging a hidden deal wouldn't meet the definition of collusion. Particularly given that the two parties are on opposite sides of the bargaining table. It would just be smart business. Nothing in the CBA says that contracts have to be recorded at the moment they are agreed too, nor that either party must reveal the contract before it is recorded. The Jets had an agreement with Jarvis Jenkins for weeks before they finalized the deal by recording the contract with the appropriate parties. They chose to disclose the agreement however nothing in the rules forced them to do this.
Any smokescreen would simply be a byproduct of Fitz having no market value, and no other team even wanting him. There’s no reason to give him close to his asking. He either accepts what the Jets offer, or the Jets sign Hoyer or trade for Glennon. Either way, you are getting a younger player who can likely produce similarly this year and better beyond. I think his agent has miscalculated his worth.
Why not if he knows he is still getting paid and on the team. He might not know the details either. They probably just came to terms on a deal but Mac said we will complete the deal after the draft.
Correction he has no market value at the price he wants. There would be a big market for him at Chase Daniels money. I think he has accepted a deal with the Jets but the jets want to wait till after the draft to make it official to throw some teams off.
It's funny you post this because I was just thinking this yesterday. Why hasn't Fitz met with any other team? He's the best free agent QB on the market right now and is coming off a very very good year. It doesn't add up.
