That's not because it doesn't work, that's because management for the most part hasn't been smart enough to make it work. Especially since the Jets had maybe one elite defense in the last 25-30 years and that was with a rookie HC and rookie QB.
this is the type of reporting I cant stand. why is it necessary to put this out there? for clicks? it doesn't do me as a fan any good, it doesn't do the team any good, who exactly the fuck does it do good for other than idiot fans and idiot writers and idiot websites who pray on idiot fans?
Lynch reminds me of a Rothelburger. Could be that good. If report is true then we know the Jets are hardly confident at QB even if RF comes crawling back Let's face it guys, year in year out the teams that consistently are in Playoff contention have franchise QB: Brady, Flacco, Rogers, Wilson, Dalton Sometimes bold moves are called for. You can't win on defense or even with "game managers". Draft day will be interesting to say the least
probably, but if holding off another year give Mac a much better trade scenario then it may be worth it. Let's say our schedule this season is a killer and we draft in the top 10 next season. Packaging Mo with our top ten pick for a top 2 or 3 pick may get us our QB of the future. This is something Macc tried this year but the 20th pick was just too far to leap. But a top ten pick next season would be so much closer to a future QB that having Mo in his back pocket might get a deal done.
Interesting that you take this stance the year the Broncos win with a great D and the greatest game manager of all time. (He wasn't a quality qb this year we all know this)
Yes. And also we could add the 2000 Ravens with Trent Dilfer, the Gruden Bucs with Brad Johnson (anyone remember him?), the Hostetler Giants going further back, ... ... ... just off the top of my head.
With Indy and that Championship he was no game manager. We need a QB that's good no getting away from it
You could be right that it was just finding out what it would take, which is important info to know, but I disagree that other GMs might be unwilling to deal with them. Most GMs play those kinds of games at this time of year. They put out all kinds of misinformation, info "leaks" out to the media about which player they really want, teams inquire about trading up, trading down, etc. I'm sure that some of it is legitimate, and some of it is just informational, but I'd also be surprised if at least some of the trade talks are ploys to start rumors or as a smokescreen. They can act serious, and other GMs would never know they weren't unless it was something totally outrageous and out of the question, or the GM or someone on his staff leaked out that it was just a ruse.
Very good point. With Indy he was no game manager. Nor was Big Ben or Brady or Eli or Wilson or.... Oh wait. That's right. You said a team can't win the Super Bowl with a game manager and I pointed out that it was won this past year with one. Silly me. Totally forgot that my post was about calling you out on some NCJetsfan type of comment.
i think the pick will be Goff... Local kid that will help fill the stadium straight away. At this point as soon as the pick is made it will be interesting to see What the teams that were interested in the 1st pick but for Wentz and not Goff will offer to the Browns. The question then is, who did the Jets want? I could see Chan go with Wentz tbh. More in general I think Wilkerson is the perfect ammo to package with the #20 and move up. The question is, what teams in font of us run a 3-4 D, have cap space and need a DE? In my opinion if we want to move to two we will have to give up #20, Wilkerson and either next year's first rounder or this year's second rounder... Which would be quite a steep price.
PS a two year deal for Fitzpatrick with Wentz and Petty learning behind him would be quite an interesting scenario. Give Fitz the nod this year and 2017 TC it's an open competition.
If the Jets draft a QB in the 1st round this year it is unlikely that Petty will ever see a significant snap in practice let alone a game.
You would really give up #20 + 2nd + 1st next year? Because that's what it would take to move up 14 spots at least.
Thing is those teams had top 5 defences all time... That Giants team was the best coached team ever too.. 85 Bears are the best ever but the 2000 Ravens and that Bucs D were #2 and #3. LT was also in his prime with Parcels and Belichick running the show. That was the best coached team ever.
To franchise Mo next year will cost Jets about 18-20M. If they are looking to trade him at 15M why would they keep him at 18-20M?
The argument for doing that would be that one year on the cap can be managed and does not expose the team to long-term risks on the salary cap. If the Jets could sign Mo for $33M guaranteed right now they'd probably do it. That's never been the target figure according to the speculation around why a deal hasn't been reached. It's the overall guarantees in a deal that really expose a team to talent, aging and injury risks with a star player.
If Mac is going to go after a QB in the draft, high in the draft. This is the time to do it. Next year's QB class is awful, so making a bold move now would be ideal.
