This trade is probably the best move the Jets could make right now given their options. Joe Thomas wasn't a realistic target to me since the trade would have probably involved Wilkerson and some combination of picks from one or both sides. The main free agent tackles I saw mentioned for the Jets were Jake Long and Will Beatty. Long couldn't win a starting job with the Falcons last year and Beatty is also coming off of a season ending injury. Clady when healthy was one of the top LTs in the NFL, so hopefully he can stay healthy for this upcoming year.

was hoping we'd get Brick at around 6M..

but circumstances what they are with Brick retiring, moving fast on Clady and resigning Ijalana were both good moves.
hopefully we can hit a little luck, and Clady has another resurgence..

I'd still love to draft an OT in 1st or 2nd, but i'm not optimistic the value will be there.....short of trading up or down.

He passed a physical? Thats confirmed? I have been reading tons of back and forth about the prospects of him returning to form. But if he passed the physical, wouldnt that make it pretty clear he's good to go? Or am i missing something?

Maybe its the nature of the game, but thisis the problem I have with football. Well, the CBA. With baseball and hockey to an extent theres the chance to have
I cant believe Connor, goodwin, Shedd, and a few others played in 50 games.

I had a dream tonite... In this dream Junc came back to life and was posting in a Ryan Clady thread, making the discussion about him instead of talking about the 29 year old former All Pro LT we just obtained for essentially nothing... for 12 interminable pages.

Somebody I have on ignore started a thread I saw once, and I could still see it. I just didn't see a "post #1." So that doesn't make any sense.

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...nth-round-pick-new-york-jets-fifth-round-pick

Based on above article, we can assume Clady passed a physical. With his injury history, I'm a little worried but Jets do not have big money committed to this. $3M guaranteed (that can go up to $7,5M with incentives). I think Clady's purpose is to prevent Mac from needing to reach in early rounds for OT. Clady won't stop Mac from drafting a tackle is the value is there and he's not a big financial gamble.

I'm happy that it's draft pick swap instead of just giving up the 5th. I know 7th rounders are unlikely to contribute but the team at least still has a shot to roll the dice six times this draft.

The ignore feature: a tool of the weak. This is what you get.

What a dumpster fire the Irish guy has turned this thread into.

After sleeping on it, I like the trade even more. The worst case scenario is we lose a 5th for a guy that gets hurt and misses the season, which I don't think is a likely scenario. If we just wait til the draft, we aren't finding an LT that can come in and play at 20 so we'd be hanging out with what's left on the waiver wire or Ben Ijalana. Neither of those options produce a solid LT.

It's a smart, savvy, low risk very high reward move and really the only right move to make when you look at the age of our best players and the window we have to win.

Jets still need to grab a Day 2 OT without a doubt and have them learn on the sideline and maybe even jump in for Clady or Giacomini. Injuries can and will happen to players in this league, that isn't a knock on Clady alone. Brady lost a season in week 1, very few players exists like Eli Manning or DBrick. Clady is basically also on a contract year since the Jets hold the 2nd year option so there's incentive in Clady's camp to have a strong training camp and carry it forward with the team. Players like Decker and Marshall have familiarity with Clady, so it seems like a natural fit from a chemistry concern.

I don't mind this deal at all, can't stress enough the importance of a LT in this game and you are getting one with a chip on his shoulder. Anybody can hurt in a game, Romo is just as injury plagued but it doesn't make him less effective or someone that the Cowboys shouldn't start day 1.

It's a funny comment, but that pick will actually be a compensation pick, not the Denver 7th rounder.

The thing I find most impressive about Mac is he fills obvious needs with free agents before the draft so can take the BPA without having to reach to fill a specific need. Smart man.

The QB is a huge issue at this point. Nobody stands out as likely to lead this team to the playoffs and that includes Fitzpatrick, who may well just take the retirement route in the end anyway.

The Jets should still be looking hard at LT at 20 and hoping Conklin falls there. You can play Conklin at either tackle this year if the situation calls for it with the plan of having him step in at LT when Clady retires, which is likely sooner rather than later.

With Brick's previous signing bonuses that get prorated though the life of the contract all getting pushed to the cap this year, in the amount of $5.01M, the total cap savings was $9.09M. With Clady's $6M contract they get $3M in cap space, less if the $1.5M in incentives are easily attainable. If the incentives are easily attainable it would count against the cap this year and they cleared about $1.5M in cap space.
