I understand that and you could be right. I do agree that they would have cut Breno before Brick, but if they needed the cap space that only Brick could have given, then they would have cut Brick.

9 million isn't extra we could've used ... we still need money for our rookies and a QB

Money well spent, lifetime Jet that missed 0 snaps in 10 seasons. Could be worse with some of the 1st round "talent" this team has managed to acquire during those 10 seasons.

Maybe just maybe we will draft a Lineman for the Offense in the first round. Haven't done that in oh..... 10 years.

Unless you are Peyton Manning, in which you you say fuck it and keep playing anyway, dragging shit out, and then retiring while the teams future signs elsewhere.

Oh it definitely would have helped to have had the money during the start of FA. Look how long it took Peyton to decide to retire. Think the Broncos would have liked to have known earlier? I may be wrong about Brick. Maybe he really struggled with the decision. Maybe he wanted to keep playing, but ultimately decided he couldn't because he just didn't have the desire to play knowing that he was not going to play at the same level. Who knows, maybe Brick told them following Buffalo that he was definitely going to retire, and the Jets talked him out of it and asked him to think about it. The timing, however, is suspicious at the least and very inconvenient. It sounds as if Brick might have time it when it could have been the least convenient.

actually here it is NC. the only play Ferguson missed and the only play in which the Jets had a different left tackle since 2005, or 10,352 snaps ago.

he was "benched" in favor of Darrelle Revis at the left tackle position haha.

no wonder I couldn't remember the play. The final, desparation play in the epic 2008 collapse. I was probably in a drunken induced coma.

We'll probably never really know the exact timeline of his decision , but it coming out so soon after the pay cut talk (even though he had to know a long time ago the team was going to ask him to take one) makes me side with him on this.

I never heard any type of retirement talk with Brick until the last week. And even then that wasnt look at as a real possibility. Maybe just as a scare tactic.

I honestly think the team was 90 percent sure he would accept a pay cut with no problem. Atleast that was what everybody "in the know" reported. So if that was the case then the Jets misplayed their hand.

Anytime a player retires in April and that position all of the sudden becomes the teams most important to replace , something happened in the negotiations. Feelings were hurt or something. Plus I remember hearing that the Jets brass had zero contact with Brick throughout the offseason. Not exactly a professional way to go about things with a guy whose salary you want to cut in half.

Either sign Fitzy back for 3 years 30 Million ,or move Giacomini to LT and let Geno get killed so Petty can get a shot.

Only missed 1 play due to it being a trick play his entire 10 year career.

I love Brick, he is a hall of Famer and I wish him well. Great Jet and he retired before anyone can tarnish his career with poor play

Brick is a huge loss. Even with him not playing like his old self lately he is still a great leader and played pretty well. This is going to be a interesting year for the Jets. Could take a step back. Guess I am thinking out loud too fast. We need to see who replaces him first.

conspiracy theory: I do believe the Jets knew about this possibly happening and this is the reason why they didn't release Giacomini at the beginning of FA. As for Ferguson I think it may be the case of a player wanting out while his body is still all in one piece... And I respect that, it's tough to walk away from all that money (10 Miln btw, not 14... 14 is the cap number, not the amount a player gets paid during the year).

Couple things, from a business perspective D'Brick is nowhere near $14.5 million and with the exception of Cordy Glenn on Buffalo, most tackles are going for $10mil or less if you look at the numbers. So is Brick worth nearly 50% more than rest of the tackles in the NFL? Hell no. I believe Brick also realized this and I believe both him and the Jets were upfront about it. Brick could have tried his luck in free agency, but my guess is that no one else was going to pay him anywhere near that either. So basically Brick knew that he could either retire or come back and play for less no matter where he went. I guess he made the decision to hang em up.

Where does this put the state of the team? I can't say I blame Mac, but there is no contingency plan here. We all like the the philosophy to draft BPA, but we might have to pick the best tackle off of the board. Years of ignoring the offensive line has finally come back to bit us in the ass, I've been saying it for years now. If we have bad offensive line this year, we mught as well just start Geno and let him get destroyed this year.

According to Hahn and Humpty it sounds like Brick was in the gym during voluntary off-season training when he was approached about taking a pay cut. I guess retirement was not at the forefront of his mind prior to the pay cut request if he was prepping for the season in voluntary OTAs.

First, thanks Brick for being a stud on the field and a class act off it.

Now we have 9M in space and a hole at LT. Jake Long is still free and Ryan Clady may become available.

EDIT: Business Insiders says we get the whole 14M!! Is this true??
