Idk. Mangold seems like the type to never want to stop playing football. Seems like he likes the limelight and has an unrelenting desire to push people around. I could see him playing many more years. Ferguson was a local guy who just had his local team ask him for a pay cut. He was also never the type to enjoy the public spectre of being a football player. Etc. makes more sense to me that he would retire early. either way tho your point is valid, these Jets should've been focusing on the offensive line in the draft for awhile now
Rich Cimini @RichCimini Important to note: Jets weren't blindsided by Brick's decision. They have a replacement plan and they're trying to execute it. #nyj
They had to know it was a possibility. But I doubt they were expecting that was the way he would go. Just seems that if some guaranteed money was kicked his way he would've restructured. Unless Brick was dead set on retirement (why wait until now to retire if that was the case) then Mac kinda fucked this one up IMO.
I named my Wheaton terriers' ass Bill and taught it to walk backwards. Jk. My dog was never that well trained.
I've said this many times before and I'll repeat it again. I think Brian Winters' ideal long-term future with Jets would be as Mangold's replacement. I think his skill set is best suited at center. I know last camp the CS had him taking reps with the second team at center. It would be great if we could have a guy in house groomed to take over.
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer Jets will have LT options at 20, but don't assume they wait til the draft. Could look at trading for Ryan Clady, Joe Thomas or Luke Joeckel. I think in this case Breer's right. We won't wait till the draft.
The dead money that is hitting us in regards to Brick is there regardless it has nothing to do with retiring etc ... its money he's already been paid so it has to count against the cap at some time or another so to the answer the posters question when a player retires you don't get hit with dead cap money per se ... its just money that he's already been paid so it would count against the cap any way ya slice it ...
A great Jet and it's nice to see a player retire pretty much injury free. He should definitely be in the Ring of Honor IMO.
He could be right. But dont be fooled , thats his opinion on what they would do. Only thing separating him from anyone here is his job title. How many times has the media said a Kaepernick to Denver deal was close , only to say its dead and then say its back on again. Its absurd. No one in the media is that much in the know.
