Trust me, you would if you lived as far away form the NFL as I do. Thank goodness for the International Series in London - and squishing da fish was sure fun. Today my little boy (aged 4) wanted to go to a soccer match. So I took him and it was boring beyond belief (I'd have rather watched the Pats play). So spending literally thousands upon thousands of $$$ to see us in JetLife is defo worth it (I'll be the idiot with a Union Jack flag and a big silly grin).
I did this three years ago(Sanchez injury game) and i thought it was epic. I can understand how you guys knock it as it's preseason, but when you have never experienced it before its a whole new world. Tailgating, marching bands, flashing scoreboards etc make the game day experience so much better then we are used to here with soccer and other sports. My wife who wouldn't cross the road to a sporting event normally was blown away by the whole thing and thoroughly enjoyed it. Only downside was because it was a giants home game there was no jets merchandise available
Pre-season football is one of the underrated events in sports. I get it, the ticket prices don't make sense (I have to purchase them anyway), but it is a totally different type of event and atmosphere. It's summertime--it's beautiful out, it's a Friday night or Saturday night whilst the sun is going down--they crowd is jovial--none of the bullshit fighting and heckling and drunks starting shit--it's the perfect time to take kids. The game doesn't matter, you get to see the starters for a few series and then you get to watch a bunch of rookies and draftees and UDFAs that you've been curious about. And if you want to leave early--who cares? It's football. It's great. Only downside is my favorite restaurant in East Rutherford--Jerry's--closed a few years ago. That was where we'd eat before almost every preseason game. Enjoy--it's a good time. And yes, fans still tailgate. _
Cool, we will do our own tailgate and make it a little English - anybody welcome (I'll probably give you a clue by wearing a British Police helmet). This is my first trip to Jetlife. I've been to the Meadowlands before (including the Monday Night Miracle vs the Fish), so can't wait. It'll be the first American Footy game for my two young children....
Enjoy your trip my friend. Like Stokes says, it is the perfect time to introduce the game to little kids. My 9.5 year old twins turned out to be Giants fans so I take them to Giants preseason games and they are having a blast. Jets-Giants games are the best preseason game. It is the third game of the preseason and both teams leave starters in until middle third and sometimes even longer. It is also pretty crowded for a preseason game and tailgate is closest to a regular season tailgate. Enjoy.
Awesome post! For years the Jets did not charge season tickets holders for preseason tickets - I always went and enjoyed the games. I believe for a while the Jets were the only or one of the only teams to not charge for the preseason games. The all of a sudden they started charging for the games. I believe it changed around 2006? The games are not worth the face value of a regular season game, but on the cheap to take the kids - a good time.
