$9.5 is probably as fair as it gets.

If Mac/Bowles are entertaining the possibility of Smith starting, then it's possible that they're okay picking No. 1 overall in the 2017 Draft. (Lose a ton for Watson?) Is that a legitimate strat and would he be worth it?

Colin Kaepernick (trade) 9.68% (969 votes)

Connor Cook (draft) 6.13% (613 votes)

Brian Hoyer (trade) 3.96% (396 votes)

Trump would have gotten more votes.

...but I heard he's got small hands.

It seems to be forgotten that Geno had one year starting when nobody thought he was ready to be a starter.
His fall in the draft indicated that teams didn't see him in that category and it's probably safe to assume the jets didn't either. Then Rex makes that dumb move in the snoopy bowl (putting Sanchez in) and all of a sudden Geno is anointed starter.
He wasn't ready and may never be ready but there is a chance no matter how small that sitting and learning last year may have taught him something.
This time next year people will be calling for Petty because he will have had two years sitting and learning since the draft, Geno was never afforded that luxury.
If we are forced into starting him this year I won't like it simply because you can't ignore his first year even though he clearly wasn't ready nor can you ignore the fact that the man is as thick as two ditches, but I will cling to a small hope that sitting has done him some good and that the weaponry available to him will make him a serviceable qb. I also won't forget that it was that idiot Rex who caused this whole situation in the first place

I would love to see him get another shot, now that he has some real WRs to throw to. He didn't have that luxury his first two years. For a good portion of his rookie year, he didn't even have a WR to throw to that he was throwing to during training camp.

I didn't think he was ready right out of college though. I thought he needed to go somewhere he could sit for a few years before starting.

If he can't look like a competent QB with the talent he would have now, then he probably never will. But it would be nice to find out though.

I will be never understand the fascination with Geno's imaginary potential. There's always an excuse. He was put in too early.... He didn't have enough weapons..... He didn't have the right offensive coordinator. Every year Geno has been given a chance to win the starting job back and he's never kept it. I don't think there's any way he will be in our plans, barring injury.

By every year you mean last year and only last year?

And by he's never kept it you're not saying bc of bad qb play as much as being a douche, right?

By don't think there's anyway he will be in our plans baring injury your guessing that the Jets will bring back Fitzpatrick or another vet to be a starter... And geno will be #2 on the depth chart?

I'm asking bc it seems like you're anti geno but then don't really say anything negative about him. Are you a closet geno lover?

Every year? I must be missing something? So your saying none of those "excuses" are legit?

The Jets' roster might be better than in 2013/2014, but the 2016 opponents are much better.

Is it possible that, if Smith starts, the Jets win 10 again and make the playoffs? It is certainly a non-zero possibility. And that's the outcome I'll be rooting for if he wins the starting spot. Hell, if he wins the job, I hope he plays like the second coming of Steve Young.

That being said, the Smith-led Jets netted 8 wins, then 4 wins. Again, the competition is tougher this year, so it's certainly a possibility that 4 wins happens again, which could get the Jets the No. 1 overall pick. And, objectively, it's more likely that a Smith-led 2016 Jets get first pick in the 2017 Draft than it is they make the playoffs.
