It is the same as a matter fact one was a first round draft pick and was cut by team desperate for qb
one made dumb ass choices off the field the other on and off and was punched in the jaw. One was a first round pick and after two yrs is out of the nfl but the other who played arguably worse is being talked about as a starter even as a stop gap is inconceivable.

You can not defend his play it speaks for itself I am not talking just about the interceptions but the poor on the field choices. The best thing you can say about him last yr was he only threw 3 interceptions or we did not loose the only game he played him directly because of him. I don't want that in my starting qb sorry. I would rather roll the dice with Petty but for all the right reasons versus rolling the dice with geno when we have a 30 game sampling of what he can do.

There is no way humanly possible you can defend his play people reach for excusesg like he has never had weapon s like this, well those same weapons will be playing for Petty why not him? He can make all the throws seems like a hard worker. Also has a yr in this system. He did not get punched in the jaw by a team mate so he must be well liked in the locker room. Shall I continue? I have 41 reasons why he should not start all them turnovers want me to throw in some fumbles as well? he can't protect the ball. Give me 41 reasons why he should start besides he never had weapons like this or because he has changed because he hasn't. The raider games shows he is not football smart his choices in that game prove it.

I would want either of them both of them are disasters waiting to happen. But a team worse then us made the correct choice and put themselves in a worse position because they were willing to cut bait on a 1st round draft pick, a player that will never mature into the team leader the team needs. And the other has fans reaching for excuses on why a qb who lacks a high football IQ, who should not be in the league as a starter arguing on why he should start.
Hats off to the Browns for making the right, choice wtf are we hanging onto a living turnover machine?

So you're going to let him know it's "here" but not diehard (as opposed to dry hard)?

It's like you're the jerk in the movies that pretends to befriend the retarded kid only to humiliate him later.

PS I think you meant "props to us" :)

While I don't think Geno should start, there's no reason to cut him. The cap savings are negligible and he's no worse than any other backup. Plus there's still a chance he'll be good if he gets another shot at starting. Whereas Manziel was embarrassing the Browns on a regular basis with his off the field antics to the point where they couldn't keep him around in good conscience.

So you want to see if another QB can bring the Jets back after Geno drives the team into an 0-4 hole, got it.

Colon also thinks it's OK to move before the ball is snapped.

I don't think jet fans are making excuses for Geno to start, it's Geno fans that are doing that. I would say that if the Jets cut Geno tomorrow, 99% of fans would be ok with it.

Mike Mac is a smart guy and while he is not emotionally vested in his decisions, he has to think about having a backup QB on the roster. I'm of the opinion that the FO and CS realize Geno is not starting material, they just don't need to address it at this point.

That being said Chan announced him the starter last year in training camp. Geno has been awful, no question, but he had a terrible supporting cast - they had terrible receivers and even the ones that belonged in the NFL were injured for much of the year. They were signing players off the street to be their receivers as the injuries mounted.

To be honest, Fitz was by no means great, despite his stats. His strategy was pretty much to keep throwing the ball high to Marshall no matter how many people were covering him. He routinely threw into double and triple coverage and got pretty lucky he wasn't intercepted a lot more often, especially in the first half of the year. Marshall was so good that he made Fitz look good too. Fitz's game is extremely limited and his inability to throw the deep ball allows defenses to drop their defenders into shallow coverage and clog up the passing lanes. We cannot go very far with Fitz because he is unable to stretch the defense and against good teams, like the ones the Jets will be playing next year it's unlikely they make the playoff even with Fitz.

I doubt Geno is the long-term answer at QB for us, but without us giving him a shot with the jets current offensive skill players we don't know for certain. I think that rather than sign Fitz they should sign someone else - maybe RG3 and have an open competition at QB next year between Geno, whoever they sign and Petty. Chan has shown an ability to work magic with otherwise mediocre QBs. Let's see what he can do.

To those pointing to the Oakland game last year as evidence that Geno stinks - consider that he came in cold; he hadn't taken any reps with the first team offense; he was in a new offensive system and he missed most of training camp so he didn't have an opportunity to develop chemistry with Marshall or the rest of the offense. Incidentally, I too remember yelling at the TV "throw the ball away you idiot!!" on that play that everyone points to where he held the ball forever, could easily have thrown it away and ended up taking the sack. What he showed on that play was concerning, but given the fact that he had just come in and the others factors I just mentioned it was understandable. He got better as the game progressed, but the defense played poorly in that game.

No he didn't get better as the game progressed. He had back to back bone headed plays late in the third, or early fourth quarter.
Coming in cold is no excuse for not throwing the ball away, or not running out of bounds. He took one deep sack on the sideline, he made an effort Not to go oob.

What the excuse for throwing to a wideout when he covered in endzone? I guess that ok?
