most assume that price because his agent is also Sam Bradford and thats what he got. No official number but Fitz WAS asking for 15+. Cant be anymore since his options are gone lol
Honestly, after 2009-2014 with Mark/Geno/Tebow/Vick, 2016's options of Fitzpatrick or RGIII both look really appealing to me.
$15million? Link? Tweet? Anything? So the comp is Bradford, who is 6 years younger, has been (right or wrong) a starter most of career instead of a backup, and is under a contract that will free up $13million if he doesn't put up this upcoming season?
I think if it were true there would have been a whole lot more traction to that story then a mention on the NFL network. The fact that it went no where tells the story. The "Mo traded to Chicago" story went a helluva further yesterday alone after a mention on WFAN.
Well every other network's moved on from the NFL's free agency to the NCAA tournament selection weekend. And Schefter hasn't put a number on it but said the two sides are FAR apart, while there was another story that said the Jets were offering Fitz less money than Chase Daniel got. It doesn't take two and two to figure out with all the other contracts this season and the Daniel number what far apart is.
Fitz's only leverage was that other teams would sign him. He's lost all of that leverage (for the price he is asking at least). His only options are to lower his price, or risk going into the regular season unemployed. In my opinion it has been his very inconsistent history plus blowing that Buffalo game (whether he is really at fault or not) that has many teams turning their nose up at him. He's also a 33 year old QB with a weak arm and many franchises arent going to be wowed by that. The OP is right, the best fit for him is here, and he still has the opportunity to triple, possibly quadruple his $3million he made last year.
Fitz wants to be paid starter money, i.e. $15+mil. The Jets want to pay him as the highest paid backup ($7-8mil). He's a guaranteed starter for the Jets. There is no other team that will guarantee him a starting job. Fitz has no leverage. The only teams that could pencil him in as a starter other than us are in position to draft a QB. Denver could use him, but they just traded for Sanchez, who despite what much of the board thinks, is not that much worse than Fitz.
I heard Fitz only wants meal vouchers for his whole family but Mac is refusing to pay for the kids. Think of the children!!
Charles Robinson @CharlesRobinson Mar 11 #Jets are frustrated with Fitzpatrick. They aren't going to circle with him forever. They believe his market outside of NY is very thin.
@SI_PeterKing Hard to understand those frustrated w/Fitzpatrick’s intransigence. Offered $11m less per year than a guy w/7 career starts+many questions.
King is a hack P*ts balllicker. If he is too dumb to understand, here is the breakdown: Firz is offered 8-9M more than he would be getting without a job.
I imagine that if the difference was 1M, Mac would manage to arrange a mutual agreement somehow - bonuses, incentives and such. I don't think the other side is willing to talk rationally.
ppl saying Fitz wants $18M need only look at what other QBs just signed for. That's ALWAYS the starting point for negotiations, whether or not it makes any sense. Fitz's agent is pushing hard for $18M. Jets are fixed at $7M (DOUBLE his 2015 contract). What will Fitz ultimately do? No one knows but Fitz, but I have to imagine he'd love to stay put. He's on a good team with PO expectations. He loves his top 2 WRs. He loves Chan Gailey, the coach he spends 40 hrs a week with. And by now his family has settled in across the Hudson from the best city on earth. His kids are doing well in private school. Mrs Fitz has made a few friends and has found the good stores, nail salons, etc. They live in a beautiful home by the lake. Life is good. No, for the Fitzpatricks, life is VERY good. So what exactly would it take in the way of an offer for Fitz to uproot his family (again) and move 'somewhere else'? At 33 yrs of age, and not getting any younger, he's not in the mood for another move. Neither is Mrs Fitz, who ends up doing 90% of the work (alone, with 5 kids, while Mr Fitz is somewhere else 'training'). If the Jets are offering $7M, would $9M be enough to move? $10M? $12M maybe? When you're making $10-$15/hr, an extra $5K/yr is a good enough reason to move across the country. But when you're a multi millionaire living the life, 33yrs old, 5 kids in school, being offered $7M by your current employer who you LOVE, it would take A LOT to tear that all up. Me? I say Fitz would have to be offered something near $12M/yr, 3yr, $25M guaranteed. Anything less just ain't worth the hassle. Since Fitz is still hanging around, it's safe to say NO TEAM has offered him $12M. In the end, I sthink Fitz will tell his agent to suck it up and accept the Gang Green's $7M/yr.
