    Jets sign RB Matt Forte
The Jets let Chris Ivory walk (he signed with the Jaguars) and replaced him with Matt Forte, which is an interesting strategy. Forte, who can do everything, is a better back right now over the plodding Ivory, but the 30-year-old has a lot of mileage on his tires. If the Jets got Forte for less than what Ivory got from the Jaguars, this could be a big win for New York. Grade: B+

    good signing...
we managed to upgrade the RB situation for cheaper.

would still like to get Powell back tho, and hopefully replace Bohanon with a more versatile player (Boobie Dixon, Gerhardt, etc)..

If Peyton had started every game for them last season, the Broncos may never had made the SB. Osweiler got them to the SB.

Hopefully the Jets can add Powell and another cheap RB. Then the Jets are able to target a pass rusher or OL in the first round.

They have other needs/holes and little cap space. Signing another RB other thanPowell is out of the question. It sounds like they paid just under $5 million for Forte, which imo is already too much. Powell is likely to cost $4 million or more. And you want them to sign yet another RB? Unreal. What about RT, RG, TE, and/or P and PR? Those are all huge needs.

I don't think we need to add another RB. Forte is a do it all type of guy.

I'd use the draft to upgrade the o-line and find a return man. I don't think upgrading a punter will cost much whether they sign someone now or wait until after the draft to sign someone. I also think Amaro will be given a year to prove himself.

Not to mention getting another edge rusher.

And I don't think Powell will cost 4 mil or more, but who knows in his crazy market.

He's never played less than 12 games in a season.

Supposedly Denver and other teams have interest in Powell, that always drives value up, and in a crazy market like this, who knows how high it could go? I hope you're right that it won't cost $4 million for him to come back here, but at the moment I don't see it happening for less.

for sure he was! i was responding to the post saying we didn't need to do anything else at RB. Forte for Ivory is an upgrade but obviously doesn't add depth

Mac has stated this he uses FA to address needs. He doesn't want to go into a draft HAVING to draft a certain position out of need. He's wise. It would be foolish for the Jets to spend all of their FA money on RBs and none on other positions.

There are no guarantees that there will be an OL available at a spot the Jets like in the first 3 rounds. Even then there are no guarantees that that player would be able to start from day one. For any OL taken after the first 3 rounds, the chances of their starting go down incrementally.

Amaro isn't an in-line TE either. Bowles has said as much. Amaro is a big pussy. His only value is as a receiver, and even that is questionable. If he doesn't have a good season, he's a goner imo and should be.

Can Geno or Petty run an effective one-read offense next year? Can either of them throw a screen pass without worrying about a pick 6 on every play?

Forte is a good pickup if both of the above are true. He's a good replacement for Ivory anyway because Ivory's durability concerns weighed heavily on the offense last year.
