With the resigning of Fitz seeming more and more unlikely (Ian Rapoport tweet), do we take a look at RGIII? He may be a great fit in Gailey's spread system in which he thrived in at Baylor University. I think that RGIII got a bad wrap after those injury plagued seasons and never quite got a chance to redeem himself in Washington. If the price is right...maybe?
I would absolutely give RGIII a chance if Fitz is not re-signed. He was set up to fail in DC. He will succeed somewhere.
I think he could be a good signing, but he would need to take backup money and be durable enough to last a full season. Seeing as how those two things arent going to happen I have to say no.
I was totally against him. And still kinda am to some degree. But if he wants to come here on a cheap 1 year "prove it" deal , I might not hate it considering the new Fitz news. If you're giving me the option of RG3 for 1 year 7 mil or Fitz at 3 years 40 mil..Im taking RG3 and rolling the dice.
If we're talking about a limited guarantee deal for no more than a million or so then yes. But I'm very skeptical of giving him much more than that
If Fitz leaves, I'd give him a shot..... But only on a cheap 1-2 year prove it deal...... I'll also say our offense and offensive coordinator may be a good fit for him
A 3-way QB competition between Geno, Petty and RG3 would be really funny. "First one to learn an NFL passing concept gets to start opening day! Ready, set, GO!" It's made for Hard Knocks.
If Fitz signs elsewhere why not for the right price. RG is only 26. If Gailey can correct him he could wind up being a long term solution. Fitz isn't that and wasn't expected to be long term, he's a placeholder. Until this team turns over an ancient OL its not going to have a deep playoff run so save the money and uncover every stone to find the QB of the future for when the revamped OL is ready.
If it's a friendly deal (e.g. guaranteed 4M with incentives up to 12M), it's a no-brainer. Give the kid a shot. BUT, if he's going to ask for $8M+ in guaranteed money, then it'd be a mistake to sign him.
He's a better option than Kaepernick IMO, but I'd only agree with him coming to the Jets if we couldn't resign Fitz. If not, he may be the 2nd best option out there as far as upside goes.
If Fitz leaves then give him an incentive laden one year deal. But I hope it doesn't come to that. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk
if Gailey could make kordell stewart into an offensive threat as a QB i feel reasonably confident he can make RG3 a serviceable replacement for Fitz.
ESPN's already called Marshall Manning playing for the Jets -- we've just got to wait a few more years (decade plus)...
They should hopefully be in contact with rg3 right now. If he is with in reason sign him. Why wait to see what fitz wants to do? They could miss out.
